FHSAA Season Preview District 12

This year the preview is being brought to you by the Lacrosse News Network Florida Classic.  This fantastic event is schedule for February 27th and is headlined by the oldest rivalry in college sports, Cornell vs Hobart Men’s Lacrosse.  The big game is flanked by Oxbridge vs Saint Andrews and Benjamin vs Lake Highland LNN_Florida_Classic_Logo_Final-01_optPrep. District 12 Lake Highland Prep – The defending state champs graduated a tremendous class in 2015.  Griff Caligiuri (High Point,) Kyle Richbourg (Salisbury,) Reid Thedford (UF,) and Don Eidson (Delaware) to name a few.  But they are still loaded and have some great seniors in this class too.  Including a great group of senior captains, middie Jackson Colling (BU,) goalie Austin Farwell, defenseman Earl Eidson, and F/O middie Brandon Mintzer.   Keep on eye on returning seniors; middie Mike Brown and defenseman Colin Shepardson. If LHP is going to repeat they are going to need some of the young guys to step up this season.  The Highlanders have been able to do it in the past.  Head Coach Chris Spaulding knows it takes depth to win championships. “If the underclassmen step up like some of our past underclassmen have done we could be a competitive team in 2016. The effort and enthusiasm is there, just hope we get the execution to go along with it.” Bishop Moore is looking for standout senior attackmen, Will Stricker (Skidmore,) and Michael Brauman to lead the attack.  Senior Joey McKenna , and juniors Christian DiPaolo and Parker Blystone will look to make an impact through the midfield.  Senior Danny Mantzaris, junior Charlie Rask, and sophomore Will Jones (Holy Cross) all return on defense with three year varsity returner, senior Max Kucera in goal. A don’t miss game this season for Central Florida lacrosse fans is a very old rivalry game when the Hornets go to Winter Park on March 18th.  These two teams always put on a great show when they get together. Edgewater was able to get their first winning season in six years in 2015 under the guidance of head coach Rabon Smith.   Team Captain and recent college commit LSM Sam Asare-Konadu (Aquinas) brings athleticism and leadership to the team.  Fellow captains Matt Goin (goalie,) William Robbinson (attack,) and Lucsas Spear (middie) will lead a team that went 9-8 last year.  Look for returning MVP and leading scorer Nick George to have another good offensive season.  Chandler Carpenter, senior defenseman, is the anchor on the offensive unit.  He’ll be looking for another good year.   Marques Bruce, a football commit to Colgate, brings a lot of athleticism to the team. In a bit of sad news, Colonial has dropped their program this season.  While they were not going to compete for any championships we don’t want any kids who want to play the game not have a team.
