
FIT Men: Panthers Conquer Argonauts for Third Win in a Row 22-6

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men’s Lacrosse) – Nick Wynne tied a season-high with eight points and Florida Tech (4-4) picked up its third win in a row, cruising to a 22-6 victory over Notre Dame de Namur (0-3) on Monday at Panther Field.
Wynne, who was named the Sunshine State Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week earlier on Monday, finished with four goals and four assists to go along with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Logan Sweeney and Cody Martin had strong games as well with six points apiece. Sweeney tallying four goals, two assists, three ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Martin chipped in three goals and three assists. Rounding out the top offensive performers, Tyler Covey registered five points on a goal and four assists.
Tom Filipow led FIT defensively with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. After hauling in SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier today, Daniel Flock (4-4) picked up the result over NDNU while making three saves in goal. Two other goalies, Matt Young and Kyle Forbes, also spent time in the cage for FIT with Forbes registering two saves in his first ever collegiate appearance.
Florida Tech finished with a major disparity in shots, 55-18, and ground balls, 50-24. The Panthers also dominated on draws, winning 26-of-32. Lance Pavlina went 15-of-19 at the “X” with a game-high 13 ground balls, while Ryan Land won 11-of-13 face offs with six ground balls.
FIT scored early and often against NDNU. Sweeney opened up the melee with an unassisted effort just 1:13 into the contest. From there the Panthers would add six more goals over the next 9:30 of game time to expand their lead to seven with 4:17 remaining in the first quarter. The Argonauts finally got on the board with consecutive goals near the end of the period to make it 7-2 heading into the second quarter.
The Panthers outscored NDNU 7-1 in the second frame and took a 14-3 advantage into halftime. FIT tacked on eight more goals in the second half, while allowing just three from the Argonauts, to improve to .500 on the season.
