FIT Women: #17 Florida Tech Downs Tusculum 22-4

(Women’s Lacrosse) – No. 17 Florida Tech continued its winning streak with an dominating 22-4 victory over Tusculum College on Thursday evening at Florida Tech Panther Stadium. Allie Modica led all scorers with eight points on six goals and two assists. Sara Grenier and Caroline Dunleavy recorded four and three goals in the win, respectively, and added one assist apiece. Modica collected a team-high six draw controls while teammate Mary Gormley recorded three. Sam Schiano, Mollie Kaplan and Modica tied with two caused turnovers each. Schiano got FIT on the board first in the game with a woman-up goal from Gormley just 1:13 into the contest. Tusculum responded with a goal by Rachel Holmes about two minutes later but Dunleavy regained the lead for Florida Tech with her first goal of the game. The Pioneers fought back and scored one more to tie the game at 2-2 with 24:19 remaining in the first half. Grenier took charge and scored two more goals for the Panthers within two minutes, increasing the lead to 4-2. Modica followed suit with consecutive goals of her own, sparking a scoring run that gave the Panthers a 14-2 lead at the half. Modica scored four during the run while Dunleavy added two of her own. Jordan Grant, Aleah Fjelstad and Alexis Townsend also found the back of the net during the scoring streak. Fjelstad opened the second half scoring with an unassisted effort to increase the margin to 13 with 27:49 left on the clock.  Schiano, Modica, Grenier and Gormely tallied four more goals for Florida Tech before Madison Malone cut the deficit to 19-3. Grant and Townsend hit the twine again for the Panthers and pushed the lead to 21-3 at the 7:45 mark. Shelby Gray collected one more goal for Tusculum with 1:15 left.  However, Monica snatched one last goal and helped the Panthers close the game with an overwhelming sixth-win in a row. Florida Tech will look to continue the win streak when it welcomes Indiana University of Pennsylvania to Panther Stadium on Saturday, Mar. 11, at 7 p.m. ET.
