FIT Women: Florida Tech Makes Easy Work of UIndy

(Women’s Lacrosse) – Carrying the momentum of a two-game win streak, Florida Tech (6-1) made easy work of visiting Indianapolis (2-3) Wednesday night, as the Panthers cruised to a 16-5 victory at Florida Tech Panther Stadium. Sarah Kapinos led all players with six points on five goals and one assist. Sara Grenier finished with four goals while Allie Modica recorded a hat trick to go along with five draw controls and four ground balls. Caroline Dunleavey added two goals and two assists and Jordan Grant contributed a goal and two assists. Defenders Arielle Gunderson, Haley Heggblod and Brittney Embree menaced the Greyhounds throughout the game, combining for 12 of the Panthers’ 17 caused turnovers. Kapinos’ opening tally at the 28:43 mark kicked off a 6-0 run by the Panthers to give them a healthy lead just 13 minutes into the game. Following a goal by UIndy’s Erika Mackenzie, FIT proceeded on another spree, this time with five straight scores to increase its advantage to 11-1 with 5:44 remaining in the first half. Consecutive scores by the Greyhounds cut their deficit to eight prior to the halftime whistle. Grant would find Dunleavey on a cut to begin the second half scoring and initiate another five-goal run by the Panthers that ballooned their lead to16-3 with 14:26 left. Hauffman and Chalane Morrison provided the final two tallies of the contest for UIndy as FIT ran out the remaining 11:46 on the clock to garner its sixth win of the season. The Panthers tripled the Greyhounds’ shot output (30-10) and scooped up more ground balls (21-15). FIT also collected more draw controls (15-7) including winning all eight attempts in the second half. Mackenzie finished with two goals, three caused turnovers and a game-high six ground balls to lead UIndy. Hauffman added two goals and Morrison scored once in the loss. Hannah Priddy collected a game-high six draw controls for the Greyhounds. Florida Tech will be up against another tough test on Sunday, March 20 when the Panthers welcome 13th-ranked Dowling to Florida Tech Panther Stadium. Opening draw is set for noon ET.
