FIT Women: Fresh Off Upset Victory, Panthers Continue Homestand Against UIndy

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Coming off an upset victory against No. 6 New Haven, Florida Tech (5-1) will look to win its third in a row when it welcomes Indianapolis to Florida Tech Panther Stadium Wednesday at 7p.m. ET.
The Panthers pulled the rug out from under the Chargers on Monday, coming back from three down in the second half to win 11-10 in overtime. Trailing 9-6 with11:09 remaining in the contest, FIT would go on a 4-0 run over the next 6:24 to take its first lead of the game at 10-9.
After NHU forced overtime, Allie Modica got the ball behind the Chargers’ net, beat her defender around the crease and fired in the game-winner with less than a minute left in extra time. The victory marked the first time in program history that the Panthers defeated a ranked opponent.
Modica recorded a game-high five points on four goals and an assist. Sam Schiano added a hat trick to her team’s effort, whileCaroline Dunleavey finished with two goals.
Indianapolis (2-2) is competing in its inaugural season in 2016. The Greyhounds fell in their most recent matchup against McKendree on March 5. In that contest, the Bearcats scored six of the game’s final eight goals to top UIndy, 16-8, in the conference opener for both sides.
Hana Priddy recorded a hat trick in the loss, while Chalane Morrison added two goals of her own. Erica Bushold, Hannah Burczyk and Sydney Hauffman tallied one goal apiece.
Morrison paces the Greyhounds with14 points on nine goals and five assists this season. Anna Rulapaugh has 10 points on a team-high six goals, while Burzyk is tied for second on the team with six goals, in addition to two assists, in three games.
Priddy leads UIndy in ground balls (13), draw controls (10) and caused turnovers (6) to go along with her six goals. Irene Carlquist has started all four games in goal for the Greyhounds, recording 42 saves and an11.00 goals allowed average.
