Coach Smith promoted to full-time assistant after helping guide team to impressive finish in inaugural season
MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech head coach Corinne Desrosiers is pleased to announce the hiring of Lindsey-Kate Smith as full-time assistant coach of the women’s lacrosse program.
“We are so excited to welcome Lindsey as a full-time coach,” Desrosiers exclaimed. “She worked with our girls for the entirety of the first year of our program, making family sacrifices and under slight financial strain to prove to them and me, that she was the only candidate for this job. She has earned it. To celebrate, we will promptly put her on a plane and send her off recruiting for the Panthers!”
Smith served as a volunteer coach during Florida Tech’s inaugural season in 2015. She assisted the offense, defense and goalies during her first season with the Panthers, helping lead the team to a 7-9 overall record and a spot in the semifinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
“I just want to thank Bill Jurgens and Corinne Desrosiers for this incredible opportunity to be a part of Florida Institute of Technology’s women’s lacrosse team,” stated Smith. “I’m excited for our second year and to work with Coach Desrosiers in guiding our student athletes to be the best they can be on and off the field. It’s an exciting time to be a Panther!”
Before joining the Panther family, Smith was a three-year assistant coach for her alma mater, NCAA Division I Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 2009, she helped guide the Hawks to their best season, finishing with an overall record of 10-8, including a program-best 5-2 finish in the Atlantic-10 Conference. Saint Joseph’s made it all the way to the program’s first appearance in the A-10 Championship, a game in which the Hawks dropped to Massachusetts, 15-14.
Prior to serving as assistant coach for the Hawks, Smith started her coaching career as a graduate assistant for Saint Joseph’s while also earning a master’s in criminal justice.
Smith graduated from Saint Joseph’s with her undergraduate degree in 2008 after experiencing a successful playing career for the Hawks. She was a vital contributor from the midfield during her career, leading the Hawks in assists all four years. Also an excellent defender, Smith finished sixth all-time in career caused turnovers (56).
At the culmination of her career, Smith became the all-time leader in ground balls (151) and finished second in career assists (65). She was also tied for 10th in career games played (63) and eighth in all-time career points (140). As a senior, Smith was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference after dishing out 21 assists during the season.
