(Women’s Lacrosse) – After exceeding expectations in its inaugural season, Florida Tech’s women’s lacrosse team will enter its second season in 2015-16 with new faces on the roster. Head coach Corinne Desrosiers announced the addition of seven new student-athletes who will don the Crimson and Gray. The class includes players from Florida, Maryland and Pennsylvania, and features five multi-sport athletes.   Leah Dunn Attack, 5’6” Broadneck High School (Arnold, Md.) Dunn lettered her junior and senior seasons at Broadneck. She helped lead the Bruins to the Maryland 4A state championship in 2013 and earn a No. 3 national ranking in 2014. Dunn was named a Brine National Lacrosse All-American in 2014. She played three years with the Energy Lacrosse Club, and was one of the top scorers on the team. Dunn is set to major in pre-medicine at Florida Tech. “Leah is another crease kid that that will help round out that low attack area,” said Desrosiers. “She will join former Broadneck teammate, Caroline Dunleavy, down on the crease and I expect them to work well together. Her size and shiftiness will make her not only a good quarterback but also an inside finisher when we need a quick goal or two.”   Brittney Embree Defense/Midfield, 5’4” Lake Nona High School (Orlando, Fla.) Embree earned a total of five varsity letters while playing lacrosse and soccer at Lake Nona. She was a two-year captain for the lacrosse team. Over her career, she accumulated 63 goals, 17 assists, 51 draw controls, 290 ground balls and 185 caused turnovers. Embree was named Lake Nona’s Defensive MVP in 2013 and Team MVP in 2014. She is a three-time First Team All-Metro selection in 2013-15, a two-time All-District selection in 2013-14. Embree plans to major in humanities and pre-law at Florida Tech. “When I was recruiting Brittney, her coach said that if he were tasked with starting a collegiate program, she would be the defender he would build the rest of the defense around,” stated Desrosiers. “I believe that a player with her smart play and quickness will carry her far at FIT, and I can’t wait to see how she meshes with our back line in the fall.”   Jordan Grant Attack, 5’2” Bartram Trail High School (St. Johns, Fla.) Grant played lacrosse, soccer and cross country for Bartram Trail High School. She was a member of the 2012 Bartram Trail team that won the district and regional championship and made it to the final four, as well as the 2013 team that repeated as district and regional champs and competed in the state final. Grant recorded 26 goals, 14 assists and 21 ground balls in 2013. She plans to major in forensic psychology. “Jordan came highly recommended to me from several people that I trust, so I had to check her out at Bartram Trail,” said Desrosiers. “She has the best attitude you could hope for, gets better every time she hits the field, and is another attacker that will help round out the core of shooters we are putting together for next year.”   Sarah Kapinos Attack/Midfield, 5’11” Glenelg High School (Woodbine, Md.) Kapinos played lacrosse and basketball at Glenelg High School. She collected 25 draw controls and tallied 35 goals during her first three years playing for the Gladiators. Kapinos received the scholar-athlete award all four years of high school. She played three years for the Check-Hers Elite Lacrosse Club. Kapinos plans to major in pre-medicine and biology at Florida Tech. “Kapinos not only brings the heat academically but also hails from an area that is one of the best in the country for lacrosse,” stated Desrosiers. “She puts up all the right kind of stats against great competition. We are going to plant her in the middle of the field and have her play both sides of the ball. We are looking to help Sarah develop into a physical, fast collegiate midfielder with a versatile skill package.”   Jenna Katrina Midfield, 5’8” Saint Maria Goretti High School (Greencastle, Pa.) Katrina received a total of 12 letters while playing lacrosse, soccer and swimming at Saint Maria Goretti High School. She is a two-time captain of the lacrosse team, while also captaining the soccer and swimming teams her junior and senior year, respectively. Katrina was a member of the 2011 and 2014 state champion soccer team. She was named to the all-county and all-conference team in all three sports and received the coaches’ award eight times in her career. Katrina plans to major in marine biology at Florida Tech. “Jenna is just a total athlete,” said Desrosiers. “I love how she has done so much during her high school career. Those skills across the board are going to be very translatable. We are going to love to use her in the midfield to start and see where she finds her best fit for us. Her height is going to be an advantage on that draw circle, and I think she will complement her fellow midfielders nicely.”   Cristina Marani Attack, 5’8” Jensen Beach High School (Jensen Beach, Fla.) Marani served as co-captain for the Falcons during the 2014 season. She was an honorable mention all-district selection in 2014 after finishing with 22 goals and 17 assists. She played on the Barefoot Lacrosse Club for seven years. Marani plans to major in marine biology. “Jensen had a great season last year as I watched her play every minute on the field into the state playoffs,” stated Desrosiers. “She is adept at low attack and will be utilized in the areas of feeding and crease play in our attacking game. I think she has only scratched the surface of her potential and we hope for her to do big things here at FIT.”   Samantha Schiano Midfield/Defense, 5’7” Perry Hall High School (Perry Hall, Md.) Schiano played lacrosse and field hockey for Perry Hall High School. She started her last three years for the lacrosse team and served as captain of the field hockey team. Schiano also captained the Charmer’s Lacrosse Club and led the team in scoring. She plans to major in marine biology at Florida Tech. “Sam is a kid that we met really early in the process when I was hired and she stood out immediately as the kind of player we want to help start our program here at Florida Tech,” said Desrosiers. “She is smart, hard-working and knows what she wants. Coming from a solid area in Maryland, she will jump into our defensive midfield system next fall and help bring that area up to the consistent standards that we expect as a coaching staff.”   Daniel Supraner Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Florida Tech Athletics 150 W.
