It was Family Night as Fleming Island opened their home schedule with a 20-2 trouncing of Jacksonville Robert E. Lee Monday night. Brothers Danny and Patrick Schreiber each scored three goals, while youngest sibling Andrew Schreiber added another.
Five of Danny and Patrick Schreibers’ six goals came during a methodical 10-goal barrage in the first quarter that removed any suspense as to the outcome.
Patrick Schreiber, a sophomore, scored all of his goals in the opening period, one on a conversion of a pass from Will Yarbrough in heavy traffic, while Danny Schreiber, a senior, tallied twice in the opening stanza. Patrick Schreiber added two assists.
Brothers Nick and Daniel Horrell continued the family theme, each finding the net for the Golden Eagles. Fleming Island coach John Hawley shuffled players in and out all evening, including defensemen Jake and Alec Goria, as 13 Golden Eagles scored goals. Middie Phil Rochester had a hat trick in the second half.
“Some of our first-year players who work hard in practice got a lot of playing time today,” said Hawley. “The younger offensive players stuck to the game plan and showed me a lot tonight.”
Middie Tyreek Faison gave the Generals a brief lead on a drive from the right wing 0:31 into the game, and scored on a second bounce shot in the third quarter. Lee goaltender Kevin Jensen played well in the crease, saving 16 shots.
Fleming Island evened its record at 3-3 and entertains Tallahassee Chiles Friday. Lee falls to 0-4.
