FLN Weekly High School Media Poll (Well, This Writer Anyhow!) – 3/22/15

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Not even spring break could keep the Florida high schools from playing games that affected the polls! I mean, really . . . would the high school kids prefer this??   Spring Break               Not a chance. Well . . .   Okay, let’s put it to a vote . . . All those LACROSSE PLAYERS ONLY.   Yes, I’d rather play lacrosse on spring break . . .  or Are you a moron Lee?   Send your responses to our twitter feed.  And if you haven’t set us up as being followed . . . your vote won’t count!   The biggest results from the week that occurred:   Monday – none   Tuesday Jupiter 13 – Martin County 3 Columbus Catholic 19 – Pine Crest 17 Vero Beach 17 – St. Edward’s 8 Benjamin split 2 games in Virginia   Wednesday Lake Mary 12 – Boca Raton 6 Barron Collier 12 – Gulliver Prep 7 Lake Highland  15 – Bishop Moore 6 Stoneman Douglas 9 – Ransom 5   Thursday Buchholz 16 – Oak Hall 8   Friday Pope John Paul 14 – Columbus Catholic 13 in OT St. Thomas Aquinas 12 – Lake Mary 6   Saturday Saint Andrew’s 13 – Lake Highland 11 Jupiter 10 – Barron Collier 6 Oxbridge 11 – Fleming Island 8   Instant Replay from last week: But right now there is one easy pick and that is at the top as STA continues to roll with their dominant performance over ______.   So, here we go . . . (still waiting for SOMEONE to give me a Monty Python opening line . . .)   Maybe if I make it RED someone will . . .    This Week’s Top 20   #1 – St. Thomas Aquinas #2 – Jupiter #3 – Saint Andrew’s #4/5 – tie, Stoneman Douglas / Ponte Vedra #6 – Lake Highland Prep #7 – Vero Beach #8 – Lake Mary #9 – Seminole #10 – Maclay #11 – Barron Collier #12 – Buchholz #13 – Jensen Beach #14 – Benjamin #15 – Pope John Paul #16 – Newsome #17 – Oxbridge #18 – Bishop Moore #19 – Boca Raton #20 – Cypress Bay   Also considered:  Fleming Island, Pine Crest, Columbus Catholic, Gulliver Prep, Martin County, Tampa Jesuit, Nease, Saint Augustine, Oak Hall, Dr. Phillips   Instant Replay #2 As you can see, I took the chicken way out for #4/5 but really when you look at it __________. Pretty soon I’ll be chicken salad.   But again the circular nature is coming into play.  LHP beats Jupiter, SA beats Jupiter, SA beats LHP, Jupiter beats Stoneman who beats SA . . .   Dang. (a Joe Dirt reference Wells . . . see, I am a hepcat!)   As an aside, if you are in the Boca area . . . http://www.mississippisweetsbbq.com/here-we-are.html Best wings I’ve ever had.  Thanks to the Davis family for hosting the Bard College team Thursday night.   Frankly, the #2 through #8 range is just as flexible this week as it was last week.  But because of spring break there will be less big games that are likely to change this that much coming up.  The biggest games are Benjamin-Jupiter on Wednesday and PJP-Saint Andrew’s on Friday.  Oxbridge and Jensen hook up Friday too.   But the most interesting game on Wednesday is solely for the fourth spot in District 23 as SA, PJP and Boca are locked in, leaving West Boca and Spanish River left to battle for the fourth spot.  West Boca went 1-13 last year and has turned that around to 7-3 this year, the true feel good story of the season!  I’m really struggling with whether to watch that one over Benjamin and Jupiter and if I said that even two weeks ago I might have checked myself into rehab. We’ll see . . . Dustin Markwardt and Brian Johnson getting it done!   Buchholz moving up again after their big win over Oak Hall. PJP also moving up as they continue their recent hot play and a win over SA would be huge for playoff momentum. Martin County and Fleming Island move out after losses this week.  Martin really needs to learn how to play the big opponents as Jupiter cracked them pretty badly.   And finally, I’m still keeping an eye on Immokalee as they look to finish over .500.  They are 6-7 with 4 games left.  Good luck to them!
