Florida Southern Announces Captains for 2012 Season

Florida Southern has announced its team captains for the 2012 lacrosse season. Andrew Almansberger, Jon Freda, Chase Juelich, Adam Ismaeil, Mat Thompson, and Wes Venturino were voted captains by their fellow teammates. Almansberger, Freda, Juelich, and Ismaeil were captains of the 2011 team that advance to the DSC Championships game. “Each of these young men embody what it means to be a Student – Athlete at Florida Southern,” said head coach Marty Ward.  “Their dedication in every aspect of the program is immeasurable,  we are very fortunate to have these young men lead the 2012 team this season.” Almansberger, a senior goalie, is in his fourth season with the Mocs. He’s coming off his best year tallying an .588 save percentage and 8.10 GAA which was good enough to earn him Deep South Conference honorable mention honors.  He has a career .577 save percentage and 9.04 GAA in 35 games for the Mocs. Freda is a senior midfielder also in his fourth season with the Mocs. He holds the FSC career record playing 38 career games. In 2011, he finished fourth on the team with 24 points and was named DSC Honorable Mention. A two-time All-Deep South Conference Honorable Mention selection Juelich is a junior defender. He missed majority of last year with a shoulder injury but has played in 26 career games with the Mocs and tallied 81 ground balls. Ismaeil is a senior midfielder, who was named to the All-DSC second team last year. He led the team with 64 ground ball last season. Thompson, a preseason All-Conference selection, led the Moccasins with 32 goals last season and was second on the team with 38 points. Thompson was named a second team All-DSC selection as well as being named to the DSC All-Tournament team. Venturino is in his fourth season with the Moccasins. He played in 14 games tallying one goal and two assists last season. The Moccasins will open the 2012 season Friday, Feb. 10 when they travel to Tampa on conference foe Tampa at 7 pm. The Moccasins’ will open their season playing four out of the first five games on the road. After opening the season at Tampa the Mocs will travel to South Carolina to play Limestone on Feb. 18.
