HICKORY, N.C. (Men’s Lacrosse) – Florida Tech men’s lacrosse (2-0) won its second game of the season 13-12 over #15 Lenoir-Rhyne (0-2) on Saturday. The Panthers survived a comeback bid in their first road game to remain undefeated in the early part of the season. Junior attackman Jason Terry led the Panthers with five goals and sophomore attackman, Daniel Errett, recorded three goals in his Panther debut. Junior Nick Wynne scored one goal and dished out three assists for FIT. “This is the biggest win in program history,” said head coach Ryan McAleavey. “Knocking off the No. 15 ranked opponent, this is a huge win for us, for morale and for the program. I’m happy. I’m ecstatic for my seniors. They worked their tails off, everybody did. It’s just a great win.” This is the first game Errett suited up for Florida Tech after an injury earlier in the year left him sidelined. McAleavey believes his presence will help the Panthers this season. “It’s great to have him back with us,” said McAleavey. “He had a couple goals in the first game he’s back. He’s just a next level player. He will add a lot to our offense.” The Panthers had a 10-3 lead early in the third quarter on a goal by Terry, his third of the game. Then Lenoir-Rhyne went on a 7-1 run to bring the Bears within one goal of Florida Tech, down 11-10. With 2:27 left, Terry notched his fourth goal of the game to put FIT up two, 12-10. Lenoir-Rhyne scored the next two goals in a span of 40 seconds to tie the game with 1:36 remaining. Then Terry, with 32 seconds left, took a rocket shot from 15 yards out that snuck by the Bears’ goalie and secured the win for Florida Tech, 13-12. The Panthers hope to take this momentum into their next game against a tough Mars Hill squad. Mars Hill is coming off an 11-10 overtime loss in its first game of the season on Saturday against Pfeiffer. “Mars Hill is always a top team,” said McAleavey. “They cause a lot of problems. We just need to make some changes and fix where we made mistakes this last game.” Florida Tech plays Mars Hill on Monday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C.
