MACON, Ga. – Furman’s Abby Shields led the Paladins to two conference victories last week to earn her first career Atlantic Sun Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week award, while Mercer’s Haleigh Wurzel recorded a new season-high save percentage to pick up the Defensive Player of the Week award, announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Atlantic Sun Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week – Apr. 12th

Vero Beach, Fla.
– First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award; second Paladin to win weekly honors this season
– Combined for 11 total points helping Paladins win two conference games last week
– Scored a hat trick to open the week in win over Central Michigan
– Added two goals and season-high five assists in 14-12 win over Detroit
– Totaled eight shots, seven of them going on target for 87.5 shot-on-goal percentage
– Added three draw controls and two caused turnovers on defense for Paladins

– Finished with a season-high 80.8 save percentage in the victory
– Allowed only one goal in the opening half, while recording nine saves
– Produced 12 saves in the second half to finish with 21; second 20-save game of season
– Tied for team-high honors with five ground ball pick ups
