GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Four members of the Florida Southern women’s lacrosse team were named to the 2015 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America teams, announced by the organization on Thursday.
Senior Megan Asper and junior Gabby Barowski were to the All-America First Team, and seniors Caitlin Chase and Lorianne Hoover were named to the Second Team. It is the second consecutive year that all four student-athletes were named All-Americans by the IWLCA.
Asper becomes only the second player to be named a First-Team All-American twice in her career after receiving the honor in 2014. She established a new program records with 73 goal, which currently stands as the fourth-most in the country. The midfielder from Parkton, Md., also set a record for draw controls with 86 this season. Asper is the Mocs’ all-time leading goal scorer with 209 in her decorated four-year career. She also holds career marks for most draw controls (266) and ground balls (199), and is second in points with 272.
Barowski keyed a defensive unit that led the nation in caused turnovers per game at 13.74 and ranked 12th in scoring defense at 7.96, marking new team records in both categories. She was the only defender to start all 23 games, and finished second on the team in ground balls (53) and caused turnovers (52). The Alexandria, Va., native ranked eighth in Division II with 2.26 caused turnovers per game. The quick-footed defender also used her speed to help the Mocs clear the ball at a Sunshine State Conference-leading .859 percent.
A product of Mt. Laurel, N.J., Chase leaves Florida Southern with nearly every offensive record. She graduates third in assists (213) and 11th in points (359) all-time in NCAA Division II women’s lacrosse history. The attacker quarterbacked the nation’s fifth-best offense to a tune of 15.65 goals per game. Chase is the only Moccasin to score at 100 points or more in a season, and has done so in both her junior and senior campaigns. With 60 assists and 100 points, she currently ranks second in the country in both categories. Chase was also a Second-Team All-American in 2014 after a scoring a program-high 111 points.
Hoover made her presence felt on both ends of the field in 2015. She was second on the team with 50 goals and third with 87 points while leading the squad in both ground balls (71) and caused turnovers (53). She also added 76 draw controls, second-most on the team. Her 53 caused turnovers more than doubled the previous season record and she finished seventh in the country in caused turnovers per game with 2.30. The midfielder from Annapolis, Md., leaves Florida Southern as the program’s leader in caused turnovers (112) while ranking second in career goals (156) and assists (86), and third in points (242).
All four FSC student-athletes were also crowned IWLCA All-South Region and All-SSC First Team selections.
