via press release – picture via FSC web site   LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse cruised to a 15-5 win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Senior Night on Friday at Bryant Stadium. The No. 4 Moccasins (16-2) picked up their 13th-straight win of the season, and defeated the Bears (9-5) for the fifth-straight time. Florida Southern’s seniors combined for a pair of goals, seven ground balls, four caused turnovers and a save. HOW IT HAPPENED • Florida Southern scored four goals in the first 10 minutes of action as it stormed out to an 11-0 lead before Lenoir-Rhyne finally got on the board with 55 seconds left in the first half. Dani Bursinger scored all three of her goals in the opening 10 minutes, while seniors Jackson Marshall and Kendall Kerge each found the back of the net in the first half. • The Moccasins outshot the Bears 23-3 in the first half of play, as Riley Bannatyne, Julia Couch, Meghan O’Brien, Casey O’Brien, Emily Santoli and Cayla Shawfield each scored. • In the second half, the Bears were able to muster four goals as the Moccasins played the majority of the second period with their reserves and underclassmen on the field. However, the Mocs would strike for four goals of their own over the final 20 minutes as Bannatyne, M. O’Brien and Santoli would each score again and Sarah Grady added her lone goal of the game. • On the night, Florida Southern outshot Lenoir-Rhyne 32-16, won 17-of-21 draw controls, and converted 10-of-12 clear attempts. The Moccasins also snagged 17 ground balls, and combined to cause 14 of the Bears’ 15 turnovers. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern improved to 5-1 all-time against Lenoir-Rhyne, including 2-1 at home. The Moccasins also moved to 60-11 all-time at Bryant Stadium. With their 13th-straight victory, the Mocs are now just two shy of tying the school record for consecutive wins. • The Moccasins finished the regular season with a 10-1 record in homes games, and outscored opponents 181-85 at home during the regular season. • Meghan O’Brien scored two goals and tallied two assists. She extended her streak of mutli-goal games to 14 in a row, and has tallied at least one assist in 12 of the 16 games in which she has played. • Bursinger recorded her third hat trick of the season, while Santoli finished with multiple goals for the eighth time this year. The Moccasins had 35 different players step onto the field in the game. • Taylor Gillis picked up the win in goal, making one save in one half of play. Alanna Zambetti played the entire second half, and tied a season high with eight saves. UP NEXT • Florida Southern wraps up the regular on April 22 at No. 7 Limestone. The Moccasins will host the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Tournament on April 28 (semifinals) and April 30 (championship). • The Moccasins are locked in as the No. 1 seed in the SSC Tournament after winning their third-straight regular-season conference title. They will face either Saint Leo or Tampa, while the other semifinal will feature Florida Tech and Rollins.
