From Press Release GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Florida Southern women’s lacrosse players Marissa Braden, Caitlin Chase, Cassie Crain, Katie Hammerer and Marissa Masello were named to the 2014 Academic Honor Roll by the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association) on Tuesday afternoon. Braden, Chase, Crain, Hammerer and Masello were among 152 student-athletes from 45 different NCAA Division II institutions included in the honor roll. The student-athletes were nominated by their respective schools and have a least reached junior status academically. Braden, who is a native of Stuart, Fla., played in 18 games and started 15 games last spring for the Mocs. The junior midfielder scored 11 goals and seven assists and finished with 18 points. She also collected 24 ground balls and caused five turnovers. Chase, who is a native of Mt. Laurel, N.J., started and played in all 18 games for the Mocs this past spring. On the season, she was named an IWLCA Second-Team All-American, an IWLCA First-Team All-South Region selection and was selected to the All-Independent first team after scoring 43 goals, collecting 68 assists and recording a total of 111 points. Her 43 goals were third best on the squad, while her 68 assists were a team high. The attacker became the second women’s lacrosse player in FSC history to cross the 100-goal mark with her first goal against Shorter on April 18 and tallied a season high five goals against Fort Lewis on March 24. She also picked up 27 ground balls, caused 10 turnovers and claimed five draw controls on the season. Crain, who is a native of Bunnell, Fla., played in 16 games and started two games for the Mocs in 2014. On the season, she scored 12 goals on 24 shots and had four assists and tallied a total of 16 points. Crain, who was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll last season, also collected seven ground balls and had five draw controls on the year. Hammerer, who is a native of California, Md., played in and started all 18 games in goal for the Mocs in 2014. On the season, she won 16 games in the cage and posted a 16-2 record for the Mocs. She recorded a school record 125 saves and had a .483 save percentage on the season and faced 337 shots. She had four games with double figure saves, including a season high 15 saves in the Mocs 12-11 double overtime win over seventh-ranked Stonehill. She was named an IWLCA All-South Region selection and a First-Team All-Independent Team honoree this season and repeated as the 2014 C. Markland Kelly Award winner as the Division II Goalie of the Year and also earned First-Team Capital One Division II Academic All-America Women’s At-Large honors. In 2013, Hammerer, who is the school record holder for career saves with 356, was named the IWLCA Division II C. Markland Kelly Award winner and was an IWLCA First-Team All-America and also earned All-Independent Team and All-South Region honors. Masello, who is a native of Warners, N.Y., played in two games and made one start for the Mocs as a defender. The senior was named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll for the second consecutive season in 2014. The Mocs completed its third season this past spring under head coach Kara Reber with a school record 16 wins and finished with a program best record of 16-2. In addition, FSC finished the season ranked 10th in the final IWLCA Division II Coaches’ Poll and achieved a program-best ranking of No. 5 during the season. The team also established new single season program records for goals (306), assists (177), points (483) and a defense that allowed a program low 8.89 goals per game, caused 214 turnovers and picked up 476 ground balls.
