From FSCMocs.com LAKELAND – Florida Southern men’s lacrosse head coach Marty Ward has announced his captains for the 2016 season. Leading the Moccasin this season will be four seniors: Del Donnelly, Kyle McLaughlin, Tyler Novak and Jonny Riley. “Each of these men were selected by their teammates to lead the Mocs into the 2016 season, we hold the captain title as a huge honor in our program at Florida Southern and it is truly a privilege to be able to serve as a captain of this team,” Ward said. “The four seniors that have been selected embody hard work and toughness, two pillars our program has been built with. Our program is excited to have these four men as captains.” Donnelly, who is a midfielder from Cochrane, Alberta, is a three-year lettermen for the Mocs and in his career, he has played in 25 games and has caused four turnovers and picked up five ground balls. In 2015, he played in 10 games and had three ground balls and caused one turnover and scored his first career goal against Lees-McRae on Mar. 10, 2015. He is a three-time member of the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and a two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. McLaughlin is a midfielder from Woolwich Township, N.J. He enters his senior campaign in 2016 having scored 11 goals, recorded six assists and has had 17 points. In addition, he has had 35 shots on goal, picked up 50 ground balls and has caused 21 turnovers in his Moccasin career. His 21 caused turnovers is seventh on the school’s all-time list. McLaughlin is a three-time member of the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll and is a two-time D2ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. Novak, who is a midfielder from Holbrook, N.Y., is another three-year lettermen that has played in 33 games. In those 33 career games, he has had seven assists, recorded three shots, has recorded 141 ground balls, which is fourth-most in school history and has caused eight turnovers. As a sophomore in 2014, Novak recorded 80 ground balls, which is second most in a season in school history and had 32 ground balls last season, which was fourth most on the squad. He was named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a sophomore in 2014. Riley is a midfielder from Murrysville, Pa., and is also a three-year lettermen for the Mocs. In his three seasons at Florida Southern, Riley has played in 32 career games and has recorded one assist, four ground balls and has caused three turnovers. As a freshman in 2013, he played in 14 games and played in 15 games as a sophomore. Was named to the SSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2014. Florida Southern opens its eighth season of men’s lacrosse on Friday, Feb. 7 at home against Queens (N.C.). The season opener is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Bryant Stadium.
