With 11:56 remaining in the second half, the game was halted due to nearby lightning strikes, and the officials deemed it was unsafe to continue playing following a 22-minute delay. The Moccasins, now 15-2 and a perfect 2-0 inside SSC play, used a late first-half run to blow open what was on pace to be one of the lowest-scoring first halves of the season. Leading 3-1, the Mocs scored six times in the final 10-and-a-half minutes to take a comfortable 9-1 advantage into the halftime break. Including the first two goals of the second half, FSC compiled a 9-0 run to race ahead 11-1. The Lions (7-6, 1-2 SSC) were held scoreless for 30:24 during that span before scoring the final two goals of the shortened game. Senior Lorianne Hoover (Annapolis, Md.) scored thrice in the first half to lead the Mocs. She snuck the ball just inside the top-right corner of the net on a free position shot following a yellow card on Saint Leo senior Christina Minneci. With just over two minutes left in the first half, she picked the bottom left corner, putting the Mocs ahead 8-1. Hoover led all scorers with three goals and four points. She also won three draw controls, caused two turnovers and grabbed a pair of ground balls. Sandwiched in between the goals from Hoover were a pair of great plays from freshman Shannon Gilfedder (Longwood, Fla.) Following Hoover’s free position goal, Gilfedder rolled around from behind the cage on the left-wing side and slide underneath her defender to a point-blank shot and goal. She then fed a wide-open Kendall Kerge (Edgewater, Md.) with a frozen-rope pass from the right wing, leading to FSC’s seventh goal. Gilfedder has now scored six points over her last two games, which includes a goal and a career-best three assists in the thriller against No. 11 Limestone on April 4. Junior defender Gabby Barowski (Alexandria, Va.) closed the first-half scoring with her third goal of the season. She took a pass across the restraining line to complete the successful clear attempt, and with a full head steam, charged down the middle of the field to the doorstep of the crease and deposited the ball past Saint Leo senior goalkeeper Brittany Millsap. In addition to her goal, Barowski finished with a game-high five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Redshirt freshman Ashley Seborowski earned the win with five saves in 30 minutes of playing time. Sophomore Taylor Gillis (Bel Air, Md.) made six saves in the final 18:04. Junior Ashley Robertson (Ellicott City, Md.), freshman Emily Santoli (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) and Kerge each finished with two goals. No. 5 Florida Southern will host Shorter (3-6) on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m. in its regular-season home finale. The Mocs’ four seniors – Hoover, Megan Asper (Parkton, Md.), Caitlin Chase (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) and Meghan Colucci (Glocester, R.I.) – will all be honored in a pregame Senior Day ceremony. The four seniors mark the first graduating class of four-year letterwinners in program history.   Travis Larner Athletic Communications Assistant Florida Southern College 111 Lake Hollingsworth Dr. Lakeland, FL 33801 E: tlarner@flsouthern.edu P: 863-680-4256
