via press release – photo via FSC web site   LAKELAND, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse picked up its seventh-straight win with a convincing 15-4 win over No. 16 Indiana (PA) on Wednesday night at Bryant Stadium. The No. 5 Moccasins (10-2) used a dominant first half to seize the momentum, and cruised to an easy win over the Crimson Hawks (0-2). HOW IT HAPPENED • Meghan O’Brien and Emily Santoli gave Florida Southern an early 2-0 lead when they converted a pair of free-position shots in the opening three minutes of the game. IUP answered with its first goal at the 21:11 mark of the first half, but the Moccasins responded with seven-straight goals. • Cayla Shawfield scored on another free-position attempt to make it 3-1 with 20:19 to go in the half, and Santoli added a second goal just three minutes later to push Florida Southern’s lead to three goals (4-1). • Kendall Kerge would put the Mocs up 5-1 when she scored her first goal with 13:42 on the clock, and Shawfield and O’Brien would score again before the end of the first half, while Santoli put home two more goals to give the Moccasins a 9-1 halftime lead. • The Crimson Hawks scored the first goal of the second half to make it 9-2, but Florida Southern scored five goals in a row to take a commanding 14-2 lead. Kerge scored twice more during the 5-0 run, while Santoli, O’Brien and Dani Bursinger also tallied a goal. • Kerge would add a fourth goal later in the second half, and IUP would score twice more to make the final 15-4. • The Moccasins finished with a 28-15 advantage in shots, forced 27 IUP turnovers, and won 13-of-20 draw controls. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern improved to 3-0 all-time against IUP and picked up its third win over a ranked opponent this year to move to 3-2 against top 20 teams in 2017. The Moccasins moved to 56-11 all-time at Bryant Stadium, including 34-1 in the month of March. Florida Southern is 47-6 all-time in the month of March. • Santoli led the Moccasins with five goals on seven shots. She also tallied one assist, won five draw controls, picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. • Kerge finished with four goals to push her season total to a team-best 30. She has scored 30 goals on 46 shots this season, scoring on 65.2 percent of her shots. • O’Brien scored three goals and dished out two assists, and Alanna Zambetti made eight saves in goal to improve to 6-0 on the season.
