The six-year old from nearby Wesley Chapel recently received a huge boost from the Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse team. On Saturday, assistant coach Shannon McHale set off on a 100-mile run to help raise money for the Harvey family. She also ran in 2015 and 2016 for the same cause, but got an added boost this year from member’s of the Moccasin women’s lacrosse team. After practice last Friday, the team was told that if they could raise $500, someone would match their donation. When the team accomplished the goal in less than 15 minutes, they were challenged to raise another $500 to be matched. On Monday, the team returned to practice with its entire donation amount in hand – $2,185 in just three days. “I am so impressed and pleased with this team’s giving heart and attitude towards raising money for this little girl and her family,” said head coach Kara Reber. “The love they show to others and all the service projects they complete are what winning is all about.” A You Caring page has been set up to help Anya through her battle with leukemia. So far, more than $2,500 has been raised online, with a goal of $5,000. Anya is just a few months away from completing her two and a half year treatment protocol, and even completed kindergarten and started first grade despite her health battle.
