FSC’s Head Coach Marty Ward Announces 2015-16 Recruiting Class

LAKELAND – Florida Southern men’s lacrosse head coach Marty Ward has announced his latest recruiting class as the Moccasins get ready for the start of the 2015-16 school year. A total of 23 new student-athletes have been added to the roster as Ward enters into his sixth season at the helm of the Moccasin program. “This is a deep and talented group of young men that have chosen to further their athletic and academic careers at Florida Southern,” Ward said about this year’s recruiting class. “Our staff looks forward to developing each of these student athletes into champions both on the field and in the classroom. “We are excited to get the newcomers on campus.” Joining the Moccasins this fall are Joseph Biondi, Jr. (Orange, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven), Logan Brubaker (St. Albert, Alta./St. Francis Xavier), Jake Crowther (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-Delco), Liam Finnigan (Victoria, B.C./Oak Bay), Matthew Frey (Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School), Conor Gleason (Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan), Nick Gutmann (Sachem, N.Y./Sachem North), Brady Hoose (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee (Onondaga CC)), Scott Kirchener(Baldwinsville, N.Y./CW Baker (Onondaga CC)), William LeClair (Naples, Fla./Community School of Naples), Austen Lison (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County), Bryce Muir (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Spencer Murphy (Saskatoon,  Sask./Bishop James Mahoney), Cameron Pashoian(Charlotte, N.C./Providence), Blaine Preston (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./University), Collin Rustay (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Saint Viator), Kyle Silverstein(Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge), Dalton Simpson (Henderson, Nev./Coronado), Jacob Strobel (Savannah, Ga./Benedictine Military), Logan Taylor(Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs), Jonathan Tine (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield), Conner Wallace (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter Community) and Liam Winwood (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park). Joseph Biondi, Jr. Orange, Conn./Notre Dame-West Haven High School Midfield/Faceoff – 5-8, 175 Biondi comes to FSC after a standout prep career at Notre Dame-West Haven High School … As a senior in 2015, scored 37 goals, recorded 17 assists and had 54 points en route to earning Connecticut High School Coaches Association Class M All-State Team honors … Was named the school’s Team MVP and also earned All-Conference and All-Area honors … He also picked up 112 ground ball and was 317-for-365 on faceoffs for a winning percentage of 87 percent … In 2014, scored 18 goals, had seven assists, tallied 62 ground balls and was 78-for-105 on faceoffs for a 74 percent winning percentage … In the classroom, he was a SportsCenter of Connecticut Scholar Athlete, an All-Southern Connecticut Conference All-Academic Team honoree, a member of the National Honor Society and National Italian Honor Society and a West Haven Rotary Club Scholar-Athlete … Played club lacrosse for the Unparalleled Elite Summer Program and played for Team Connecticut at the 2014 Brine National Lacrosse Classic. Logan Brubaker St. Albert, Alta./St. Francis Xavier High School Midfield – 6-0, 170 Brubaker has spent the past season competing for the Junior A Edmonton Miners … Was a first-round RMLL draft pick in 2014 … Also played for Apex Lacrosse and the Mad Lax National Team in 2015.   Jake Crowther Springfield, Pa./Springfield-Delco High School Defense – 6-1, 190 Crowther comes to Florida Southern after helping Springfield-Delco High School take home the PIAA District 1 Championship this past season.   Liam Finnigan Victoria, B.C./Oak Bay High School Midfield – 6-2, 175 Finnigan joins the Mocs after being both the Junior and Senior Athlete of the Year at Oak Bay … Was a two-time Midget Box Lacrosse Provincial All-Star and was a two-time All-British Columbia Player … Two-time national silver medalist playing with both the Victoria Field Lacrosse program and the Westshore Whalers … Also played club lacrosse for the Junior A Victoria Shamrocks.   Matthew Frey Fallston, Md./The John Carroll School Midfield – 6-2, 160 Frey was a three-year varsity lettermen and served as one of the team’s captains as a senior at the John Carroll School … Helped lead the school to the 2015 MIAA B Conference Championship … Was a Second-Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore and junior … In the classroom, maintained a 3.6 or above GPA all four years of high school … Played club lacrosse for Celtic Cross for three years. Conor Gleason Manasquan, N.J./Manasquan High School Defense/LSM – 6-1, 175 Gleason recorded 25 takeaways and had 35 ground balls as a senior at Manasquan High School … Earned Monmouth/Ocean County All-Star honors … Played club lacrosse for United Lacrosse. Nick Gutmann Sachem, N.Y./Sachem North High School Midfield/Attack – 6-1, 160 Gutmann played at Sachem North High School and recorded 20 goals, 19 assists and tallied 39 points.   Brady Hoose Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee High School (Onondaga Community College) Attack – 5-10, 175 Hoose comes to FSC after being a member of Onondaga’s 2015 NJCAA National Championship team … As a sophomore in 2015, saw action in 15 games and scored 17 points … Scored seven goals, had 10 assists and 11 ground balls during the Lazers national championship campaign … In high school at West Genesee, was a Second-Team All-League selection … Helped lead team to a Sectional and Regional Championship … Played in 38 games and had 36 assists. Scott Kirchener Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker (Onondaga Community College) LSM – 5-10, 175 Kirchener was a member of Onondaga Community College’s 2014 NJCAA National Championship team and was also a member of the OCC President’s List … As a prep player at C.W. Baker High School, Kirchener was a two-time Second-Team All-Conference selection and also earned First-Team All-Conference honors as junior … Was named a 2012 Brine All-American and also earned Empire State Team Central honors. William LeClair Naples, Fla./Community School of Naples Midfield/Attack – 6-1, 155 LeClair was a captain and earned Honorable Mention All-Area honors at Community School of Naples … Scored 32 goals and had 21 assists as a high school player. Austen Lison Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County High School Defense/LSM – 6-1, 190 Lison was a four-year academic letterwinner and an honor roll student at Loudoun County … As a senior in 2015, was a First-Team All-District, All-Region and All-State selection … In 2014, helped lead LCHS to a State runner-up finish and a regional and district championship … Earned First-Team All-District, All-Region and All-State honors as a junior … Helped lead the school to a District title and a District Tournament championship as a sophomore in 2013 … Played club lacrosse for Apprentice Athletics and SMS. Bryce Muir Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield High School Defense – 5-11, 220 Muir was a First-Team All-League defender and a varsity captain at Hempfield High School … Helped lead the school to the Lancaster Lebanon League championship … In the classroom, Muir graduated with honors and received the President’s Academic Excellence Award … Played club lacrosse for the Road Warriors. Spencer Murphy Saskatoon, Sask./Bishop James Mahoney High School Midfield – 5-7, 155 Murphy was a two-time Canadian National Bronze and Tournament All-Star at Bishop James Mahoney … Helped lead team to three Provincial Championships, three City Championships and was a two-time All-Star … Earned the Principals Honor Roll (85 percent average) … Played club lacrosse for the Saskatoon Stingers, Saskatoon Scorpions and Elev8. Cameron Pashoian Charlotte, N.C./Providence High School Defense/LSM – 5-8, 165 Pashoian was a three-year varsity lettermen at Providence High School … As a senior in 2015, recorded five goals, one assist, 48 ground balls and 29 takeaways … Was selected to play in the North Carolina Great 38 All-Star Game … Played club lacrosse for Road Warriors. Blaine Preston Fort Lauderdale, Fla./University High School Midfield – 5-10, 180 Preston was a First-Team All-District and All-County selection at University High School … Also earned First-Team All-Region honors … In the classroom, was a member of the National Honors Society … Played club lacrosse for Swashbucklers, Team 22 and Fort Lauderdale Hammerheads. Collin Rustay Hoffman Estates, Ill./Saint Viator High School Defense – 6-1, 200 Rustay was a four-year varsity lacrosse letterwinner, a three-year starter and two-year captain at Saint Viator High School … Was a three-time ESCC All-Conference selection … Helped lead SVHS to two Illinois State Final Four appearances … Was also an ESCC All-Conference and Daily Herald All-Area selection as a middle linebacker on the football team. Kyle Silverstein Smithtown, N.Y./Hauppauge High School Attack – 5-10, 165 Silverstein was named the Unsung Hero Award winner at Hauppauge High School … Played club lacrosse for South Shore Ballers. Jacob Strobel Savannah, Ga./Benedictine Military Faceoff/Midfield – 6-0, 190 Strobel was named a Coastal Empire Select All-Star and led Benedictine Military to two SCILL State Championships … He also helped the team to a GHSA Area Championship.   Logan Taylor Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs High School LSM – 6-3, 185 Taylor was a three-year lettermen and served as the varsity team captain in 2014-15 at Saratoga Springs High School … Earned Suburban Council Second-Team All-Star LSM honors … In his prep career, he had 82 ground balls, scored eight goals and had five assists … Was also a Varsity Coaches Award winner … Also was a two-year varsity lettermen in swimming … In the classroom, he earned Academic Recognition by the Rotary Club from 2013-15 and was a member of the National Honors Society after maintaining a 93.5 grade point average … Played club lacrosse for Albany Power Class of 2015 Summer Team and helped the team post a 13-1 record. Jonathan Tine Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield High School Defense – 6-3, 205 Tine was named a First-Team All-Conference and All-Region Honorable Mention selection at WHS … Was also named an Academic All-Conference selection … Played club lacrosse for Triangle Select, Cannons Lacrosse and the Tarheel Lacrosse Club. Dalton Simpson Henderson, Nev./Coronado High School Midfield – 5-11, 165 Simpson comes to the Mocs after being a 2015 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American at Coronado High School … Recorded 41 goals, 18 assists and 52 ground balls at Coronado … Led team to a Nevada State Runner-up finish in 2015 … Graduated with honors from CHS … Played club lacrosse for Zip-It/Movin Up Lacrosse. Conner Wallace Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter Community High School Defense/LSM – 6-0, 150 Wallace was named the Most Improved Player in 2014 at Jupiter Community High School … As a senior, earned Second-Team All-District and All-Region honors … Helped lead the school to a District title and a Regional runner-up finish in 2015 … Played club lacrosse for Wellington War Pigs, Palm Beach Storm, Blue Devil Elite and Palm Beach Revolution. Liam Winwood Kings Park, N.Y./ Kings Park High School Attack – 6-1, 175 Winwood was a two-year varsity captain and a three-year lettermen at Kings Park HS … Scored a total of 72 points in his high school career … Was a member of the National Honor Society and an Academic Excellence Award winner … Played club lacrosse for RECON, which was a club out of Long Island.
