FSU has already received some good press regarding their prospects for the upcoming season. LaxAllStars.com named the ‘Noles one of five MCLA teams to keep an eye on this season. With new head coach, Jerry Delorenzo at the helm fall ball is a little more important than usual. The players are trying to learn a whole new system.
The FSU team is loaded with some very talented Central Florida players. Although Coach Delorenzo made it clear that he is not naming any starters yet, we observed that Oviedo’s Davis Goodman and Alex Perez both looked great. Perez is now a senior and preparing for Medical School as well as the upcoming season. Delorenzo described Goodman as a very “talented hard working guy.”
Hagerty’s Eric Marshal continued to show he has a knack for finding the cage and Lake Mary’s Zach Nash was described by Delorenzo as the “Top rookie impact player.” He looked very athletic from the wing on face offs and matched up well with Tampa’s strong offensive middies. Having that caliber of defender to match up against opponents strongest dodgers will give the ‘Noles a big advantage this season.
MCC’s Dylan Lowdermilk, the third Lowdermilk to play for FSU lacrosse, is going to get his share of wins at the “X” and is a solid presence on the field.
Coach Delorenzo is also looking for a couple of transfers to come in before the spring semester and a couple of key guys to return from injury including Winter Spring’s Stephan Yokam. The Seminoles have two more weeks of fall ball to get their new system in place. They face North Florida and Shorter at the Veterans Day Invitational this weekend in Palm Coast. Then they take on the Gators in Gainesville on November 20th.
During the regular season they have a big St. Patricks Day game against powerhouse Liberty University in Tallahassee. They are also looking forward to a great trip to Baltimore to participate in an eight team tournament at Under Armour’s facility. FSU will be taking on some highly ranked teams like Boston College and Virgina Tech in that event.
After an undefeated regular season in 2014 that ended with an unfortunate loss early in the playoffs the ‘Noles lost a couple of close games in 2015 that cost them an opportunity to make the playoffs. FSU returns a ton of young talent that is now a year more mature and experienced. They also have a new Head Coach that many hope will provide the spark needed to get this group over the hump and deep into the playoffs this season.
