Get to Know Alex Heatzig, One of Florida’s Top Uncommitted Seniors

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
“Team Florida used a relentless pressure defense to force a number of turnovers and defeated No. 13 seed NESLL (New England Select Lacrosse League), 10-2.”  This was written by Paul Krome in his July 28, 2012 article in laxmagazine.com about the quarterfinal win which sent Team Florida to the semis at the U15 National Championships.  He never mentioned anyone on the defense by name, but one of the key poles was St. Andrew’s rising senior Alex Heatzig.

Stuck behind some excellent defenders his first two years on the St. Andrew’s depth chart, Alex started every game this year for the Scots.   Stripping his opponent is a skill which stands out and with his speed he will often run the clear himself.    Great defense is a joy to watch (as long as your son is not on offense), and watching Alex at his craft is a treat.  He’s always in the right place and plays with intellect (Alex was just elected Cum Laude). Alex is a great teammate with a ready smile.  He’s headed to a top academic institution, and we at FLN hope he finds one with a lacrosse team who could use a standout player so we can continue to watch him play. His 2014 highlight video can be seen here. Full name: Alex Heatzig Position: Defense Height: 5’11” Weight: 175 lbs High School Team: Saint Andrew’s Lacrosse Honors: 2nd Team All-District and Region for 2014 season. College experience: I am looking for a great academic school that compliments my lacrosse skills. Summer: In mid-July, I will be participating in the Good to Great Lacrosse Showcase. My game: I am a hard worker on and off the field, with a strong focus on fundamentals.  I take pride in having a high lacrosse IQ and being a leader on the defense. First Lacrosse Experience: Throwing with my friend Armin in 6th grade at our first lacrosse practice – needless to say, the ball was on the ground a lot.
