Gulliver Comes From Behind To Win Semi vs. Ransom Everglades

Written by fln on . Posted in .
Starting off the FHSAA 2014 district playoffs, Ransom and Gulliver (20 year lacrosse rivalry) met at Ransom for a 2pm game in observance of Passover. Boy did this game deliver everything you expect in quality lacrosse game. Controlled tempo, physicality and a battle for the lead throughout the game. Earlier in the year these two teams met for their season opener with Ransom squeaking by with an OT win.
Gulliver 16 414Ransom starting the assault early with a quick faceoff win and a goal within the first minute from Alec McDowell indicated this was going to be a barn burner. Throughout the first half it was back and forth with Gulliver battling back from a 2 goal deficit to hold RE to 0 goals in the second quarter, going into the half tied at 5-5.
Ransom came out to play after the half. Ransom Attackman Mack Schoer plugged a couple goals in the 3rd and it seemed Ransom was slowing walking away with this one
finishing the 3rd Quarter with Ransom up 9-6.
9 Minutes left in the 4th quarter Ransom up 9-6, Gulliver’s senior class stepped it up and everything started to drop their way. Ransom’s goalie Tyler Martin, 1st team all district and All South Florida, played lights out all season and throughout this game but just couldn’t stop a 6-1 run by Gulliver’s- SR Danny Rodriguez (2gs), SR Ryan Cordero(1g), SR Jojo Rousseau(1g) and SR Pierce Bailey (2gs). Gulliver tied it up 10-10 with 4 minutes remaining and added a couple quick ones to end the game Gulliver 12 and Ransom 10.
Good luck to all the teams out there with a majority of the first round districts starting today. The parity across the state has made this season very special.
Finally, what a treat to cover a game played on the shores of Biscayne Bay.
