Hobart Statesmen Add Craig Whipple to Coaching Staff

In my never ending attempt to find a way to place my beloved Hobart Statesmen in FLN story lines I came across the following Florida connection yesterday! Tampa Head Coach Rory Whipple’s nephew (and therefore Conor Whipple’s cousin) Craig Whipple has joined the Statesmen as an assistant coach:   http://www.hwsathletics.com/news/2014/10/7/HLX_1007140112.aspx
10/7/14 – Geneva, New York Hobart College Lacrosse Head Coach Greg Raymond announced that Craig Whipple will join his staff for the 2015 season as the volunteer assistant coach.  Current volunteer assistant coach Terry Muffley will continue to work with the Statesmen as the director of lacrosse operations. “Coach Whipple is a wonderful addition to our staff,” Raymond said.  “I’ve known Craig since his playing days at RIT where he was a teammate of my older brother.  Craig eats, sleeps and breathes lacrosse.  He truly loves this game, and his accomplishments as Irondequoit’s head coach prove he has the ability to lead and mentor young men.  We are excited to add his knowledge and passion to the Hobart lacrosse program.” Whipple most recently served as the boys’ lacrosse head coach at Irondequoit High School, his alma mater. With the Eagles, he compiled a 111-36 record, won four Section V Championships, four Western Region Championships, and the 2012 Upstate Championship, defeating defending New York State Champion Jamesville-DeWitt. That 2012 Irondequoit team advanced all the way to the New York State Championship game before falling to the No. 1 har vokse review ranked team in the nation, Garden City. Whipple, who mentored nine All-Americans, won three straight Class B Coach of the Year awards, back-to-back Section V Coach of the Year honors, was tabbed the All-Greater Rochester Coach of the Year by the Democrat and Chronicle in 2007 and 2012. An All-American midfielder at RIT, Whipple played for Hobart All-American Guy Van Arsdale ’83. A three-time first team All-Super Six selection, Whipple competed in two NCAA Championships, guiding the Tigers to the national semifinals in 1999. One of his top collegiate performances came in the 1999 NCAA Quarterfinals when he scored five goals and assisted on five more in a win over Springfield. In 1998, Whipple was named the MVP of the ECAC Regional Championship Tournament after guiding the Tigers to the title. He capped his collegiate career by playing in the USILA North-South All-Star Game. Whipple graduated from RIT in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He was the 44th selection in the 2000 National Lacrosse League Draft and played three seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks. Coaching is a family trait for the Whipples. Craig’s brother, Andrew, is the head coach at Pittsford High School, their uncle, Rory Whipple, is the men’s lacrosse head coach at the University of Tampa, and their father, Jay, was a long-time assistant coach. Craig Whipple lives in Irondequoit with his wife, Amy. They have two daughters, Lucy and Charlotte.
