Instant Classic: Boca Nips St. Thomas 10-9 in OT

Sorry to say I missed this one.  Until the final 6 minutes.  But based on what I did see I wish I could watch the whole thing. After St. Thomas put on a furious rally to tie the game at 9-9 on Revin Koss’ up top bullet with under a minute to go (it was 9-6 when I arrived with around 6 minutes left in the fourth), Brad Singer ended it after a tremendous amount of goalmouth action to give Boca Raton its 3rd Top 10 win of their magical season, as they go to 7-0 on the season. For St. Thomas it was their second consecutive OT heartbreaker as they continue through their tough schedule and fall to 6-2 on the season. Playing shorthanded on attack due to an almost endless list of injuries to its top talent, STA played tough and never gave up, and showed that they will be a tough out for anyone. STA goalie Ben Tobin made FOUR crease-side saves in the overtime before succumbing to Singer’s final dagger.  FLN is hoping to be able to post that OT film on our site and we will update you if it is obtainable. Boca led after every quarter and throughout the game until the last minute of regulation, taking leads of 3-1, 6-3 and 8-6 into the fourth.  Matt Digney performed well in net, stopping 11 of the 20 shots on goal directed at him. Boca was led by Nick McCabe’s 3G, Parker Giarrantana and Phil Duval with 2G each, Ryan Clinton 1G/1A, Christian Mauro and Singer with 1G each. Kyle Frey chipped in 2 assists and Digney was credited with an assist too. St. Thomas was led by Revin Koss with 3G/1A, Louis Yovino with 3G, Sam Khalil added 2G and Alex Tumminello added a goal too. STA travels across Alligator Alley Friday to take on Top 10 opponent Barron Collier in what will be a terrific match-up of two teams looking for a Top 10 win while Boca Raton travels across Glades Road/Military Trail to take on city rival Pope John Paul II, also on Friday.  Both teams have key match-ups next week as STA really steps up in class, hosting Inside Lacrosse’s #4 ranked team in the nation, McDonogh (Md.), fresh off their opening game win over Haverford (Pa.) while Boca travels up I-95 to face Vero Beach. Good luck to Coach Crowley and his squad; a win Monday would be fantastic for lacrosse fans down here.  I’ll certainly make sure I’m there for a lot more than the last 6 minutes!
