Irish Rain on Home Opener For JU Women

From JUDolphins.com JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Eleventh-ranked Notre Dame built an early lead and went on to beat Jacksonville University 18-5 in the season opening women’s lacrosse game for each team at D.B. Milne Field here Saturday. Undaunted by a cold rain, Irish junior Cortney Forunato scored four first half goals and teammate Rachel Sexton had three, as Notre Dame (1-0) rolled to a 12-2 halftime lead after getting off 28 shots in the first 30 minutes. Notre Dame broke out to a 3-2 lead then reeled off 11 consecutive goals before JU’s Kelly Lacy and Hannah Wilcox scored consecutively in the second half. Sophomore Ashtyn Hiron, Kelsey Wiglesworth and Danielle Della Rocca also scored for JU (0-1). Goal keeper had 13 saves as the Irish wound up with 40 shots to JU’s 13. Casey Pearsall, Kiera McMullan, Nikki Ortega and Heidi Annaheim each had two goals for Notre Dame. The Dolphins return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a home game against Towson.
