via press release – photo via JU web site   JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  – An even second half began Southern Conference play as Jacksonville University (0-7, 0-1) fell to #19 Richmond (7-1, 2-0), 13-6, Saturday at D.B. Milne Field. First Quarter Both defenses flexed their muscles with only one goal mustered in the period. Ben Gleichenhaus saved two of Richmond’s seven shots awhile Jacksonville shot six times without a goal. Austin Brown scored the Richmond goal on a Lee Ryan pass. Second Quarter Richmond scored on its second man-up opportunity while Brown connecting again, this time at 12:28. The visitors rattled off six more goals and took a 7-0 lead into the break. Hunter Forbes captured six of nine faceoffs and helped the Dolphins to an 18-10 edge in ground balls. Third Quarter Jacksonville came out of the break with blazing energy. The Dolphins netted three goals in the first four minutes, started by McLean Chicquen at the 13:30 mark. Eric Applegate took control next with an unassisted goal at 11:15. On the next faceoff, Ryan Beville took a ground ball and sprinted in for a successful shot. After a Richmond goal at 10:26, Brett Reilly scored on a beauty at 8:03. The Spiders though kept pace with four goals as well in the frame and remained in the lead, 11-4, through three. Fourth Quarter Blake Gatison netted his second goal of the year at 9:57 by weaving through a web of Spider defenders. After a pair of Richmond goals, Dwayne Mattushik took a Chase McIntyre pass and scored the final Dolphin goal with 2:02 remaining. Quote “I’d like to tip my cap to Richmond. I thought they played a complete, fundamentally sound game. The difference between the teams was that Richmond was well-coached on attention to detail, and we have done a poor job of making sure that we execute the little things throughout the game. That falls squarely on my shoulders, and I look forward to getting back to work with the group to make sure we are extremely attentive to detail, fundamentally sound, and more importantly disciplined in all facets of the game.” – Head Coach John Galloway Scoops Jacksonville won the ground ball battle 37-27 led by Forbes’ eight, who also won 14 of 22 faceoffs. Chase York captured six ground balls for JU. The Dolphins went 12-15 in clear attempts, and the Spiders were 19-21. Gleichenhaus had nine saves and his counterpart Benny Pugh totaled 16. Jacksonville is back on the road for SoCon play on Saturday, Mar. 25 at 2 p.m. at Air Force.
