Milne Field in JU’s first game under Head Coach John Galloway. Jacksonville outscored Lehigh 5-3 in the game’s final stanza, aided by three goals from sophomore Will Hendrick. In total, Hendrick led all players with five goals. First Quarter Each team raced out of the gates with both sides finding the back of the net five times. Chase McIntyre scored the first Dolphin goal of the season on an assist by Shawn Ewert at the 12:36 mark. McLean Chicquen starred next with his first goal at 5:31 left in the quarter, and just over a minute later he set up Hendrick. The final two Dolphin goals were converted by McIntyre from Hunter Forbes and Ewert thanks to Chicquen, respectively. Second Quarter Goalkeeper Ben Gleichenhaus only allowed two goals in the quarter on his way to a game-total of 14 saves. Andrew Pettit of Lehigh was responsible for both en route to a team-high four scores. With 48 seconds remaining, it was Hendrick again who clipped Mountain Hawk netminder Chris Kiernan, who accounted for 12 saves on the day. Third Quarter A trio of Mountain Hawks scored in the quarter, while McIntyre was the lone Dolphin to find success past Kiernan at the 1:01 mark. Fourth Quarter Trailing 10-7, JU got back on the scoreboard immediately thanks to Tommy Barnhorst‘s first career goal just 88 seconds into the quarter. After three unanswered Lehigh goals, Hendrick took charge with a trio of successful shots, two unassisted and one from Chicquen. JU’s final goal, to cut the deficit to one, came on a Brett Reilly shot and an assist from Hendrick. Quote “It was a tremendous fight and I really enjoyed the way our guys played. As we said at the start of the week, we were never going to be out of it regardless of the score, and that was evident in the fourth quarter. We made some unconventional mistakes in the clearing and faceoff game that created opportunities for Lehigh. I thought Ben Gleichenhaus was tremendous in goal. This is a fun group, and I love coaching them. That was a very good Lehigh team, and after one game, we aren’t where we want to be, but we are at a good place.” – JU Head Coach John Galloway “Will has been a well-kept secret until this game. He transferred to us from Mt. Saint Mary’s and has speed, quickness, and a quick shot-release. We want to get the ball in his stick a lot, but we also have four or five guys that can go for five goals at a time. We have to keep providing them more opportunities. I thought he fought through some fatigue to finish the game strong.”  –Galloway on Hendrick’s play. Scoops Each team picked up 35 ground balls, and the two also split their faceoffs, with each winning 13. The Dolphins went 3-8 on extra-man opportunities, and Lehigh was 1-2. JU was outshot, 47-37, and had 15 turnovers compared to Lehigh’s 12. Jacksonville remains in the River City with a tilt against Marquette on Feb. 18 at 12 p.m. The game is set to be broadcast on ESPN3. It will be the fourth matchup all-time between the programs, and JU leads the series 2-1.
