JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team ends their home season with Senior Day, as they face Atlantic Sun opponent Mercer on Saturday, April 11 at 1 p.m., at D.B. Milne Field. The game will be shown live on EPSN3.
“We are excited to play Mercer on Senior Day,” said Head Coach Mindy McCord. “We have a great group of seniors who have been huge contributors in the growth of our women’s lacrosse program.”
The senior class of 2015, Taylor McCord, Asia Moore, Brittney Orashen, Tori Seitz, Holly Ventimiglia and Jess Worcester, will be recognized prior to the start of the game. Last week, the Dolphins went 2-0 defeating Detroit (18-7) and Furman (16-5) improving their record to 12-2 (4-0 in conference).
Jacksonville has the 11th best RPI in the nation and is tied for first for most victories with 12. The team also ranks first in the nation with 23.29 groundballs per game. Orashen’s performance last week (seven groundballs, three draw controls and four caused turnovers) landed her the A-Sun’s Defensive Player of the Week accolade for the second time this season. She currently leads the program in career groundballs with 130 and is tied for first with 84 caused turnovers.
Mercer, in its inaugural season, enters the game with a 4-7 (1-3 A-Sun) record. Last Saturday, the Bears defeated Howard 21-15 in conference play. Kate Leone led the team with a program-high eight goals, while Erica Coyne secured a team-high six groundballs. Leone is the top scorer for the Bears, she has collected 30 goals this season.
Following the game, there will be a free kid’s clinic and an autograph session.
