JU Women: Jacksonville Picked as Preseason Favorites, Places Four on All-ASUN

via press release – photo via JU web site   LAKEPOINT, Ga.  – Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse has been chosen by the ASUN Conference coaches to repeat as conference champions in 2017. The Dolphins also saw four players earn Preseason All-ASUN distinction in Erika Brager, Kristin Ridenour, Ashtyn Hiron, Danielle Della Rocca. Brager, a senior Defender from Baltimore, Md., was a second team All-ASUN defensive play a year ago. She totaled 33 ground balls, 28 draw controls, and 25 caused turnovers. Ridenour, another senior Defensive standout from Alpharetta, Ga., was named to the All-ASUN first team last spring after starting 18 games and picking up 37 ground balls, 20 draw controls, and 20 caused turnovers. Hiron, a Perth, Western Australia, Midfield product, is the defending ASUN Defensive Player of the Year. The First Team All-ASUN midfielder started all 18 games in 2016 and had 29 goals and eight assists for 37 points. She had team-high 40 ground balls and had 34 draw controls with a team high 33 caused turnovers. Della Rocca, a senior Attack and Mt. Sinai, N.Y. native, started all 18 games last year and was named first team All-ASUN. She led the team in goals with 47 and points with 68. Della Rocca also totaled 21 assists, 20 ground balls, and caused seven turnovers. Rachel Aus (Attack) and Hannah Wilcox (Midfield) were named to the Preseason ASUN Watch List. Jacksonville received five first-place votes and 111 total points. Old Dominion also received five first-place nods but received 104 total points. The Dolphins visit the Monarchs on Mar. 24 to open ASUN play. The ASUN Championships return to D.B. Milne Field May 4-7.
