JU Women: Ventimiglia and Orashen Top Atlantic Sun All-Conference Awards

MACON, Ga. —Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse garnered 12 of the 2015 Atlantic Sun Conference postseason awards, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Senior attack Holly Ventimiglia, from Medford, N.Y., was named the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Player of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-Atlantic Sun first-team. This season, Ventimiglia has 46 goals, to lead the A-Sun, 12 assists, 24 ground balls, nine draw controls and seven caused turnovers. For her career, she has 121 goals, 45 assists, 84 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 26 caused turnovers. She tallied her 100th career goal against Detroit and collected her first Player of the Week accolade this season.
Brittney Orashen, was named Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year, she also listed to the All-Atlantic Sun first team. A fifth-year senior, Orashen (Lebanon, N.J.) has 24 goals, six assists, 41 ground balls, 47 draw controls and 27 caused turnovers. For her career, she has 106 goals, 29 assists, 145 ground balls, 181 draw controls and 91 caused turnovers. Against Detroit, she found the back of the net to collect her 100th career goal as well. She was named Defensive Player of the Week three times this season, and has six awards for her career.
Danielle Della Rocca (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) and Asia Moore (Apex, N.C.) also earned spots on the All-Atlantic Sun first-team. Della Rocca, a sophomore, has 41 goals, 23 assists, 20 ground balls and four caused turnovers. On her career, she has 65 goals, 30 assists, 34 ground balls and four caused turnovers. Goal keeper Moore, a senior, has a 15-2 overall record and has recorded over 800 minutes in the goal. She has a 7.36 goals against average and has a .433 save percentage. On her career, she has a 27-9 record, has recorded over 2,200 minutes in the goal and has 40 ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Erika Brager and Jess Worcester each garnered spots on the All-Atlantic Sun second-team. Brager, a sophomore from Baltimore, Md., has 43 ground balls, six draw controls and 15 caused turnovers this season. On her career, she has grabbed 56 ground balls, nine draw controls and 22 caused turnovers. Worcester, from LaPlata, Md., has accumulated 13 goals, 10 assists, 20 ground balls, 37 draw controls and eight caused turnovers this season. During her career, the senior has accumulated 41 goals, 19 assists, 52 ground balls, 102 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers.
Caitlin McMahon was the only Jacksonville freshman named to the All-Freshman team. She has played in all 17 games this season and started in five of those. In her first season, she has collected nine goals, four assists, nine ground balls, 27 draw controls and five caused turnovers. She was also named Player of the Week earlier this season.
Rachel Aus, Jaime Chapman and Ventimiglia were named to the Academic All-Conference team. Aus has 3.54 and is majoring in Education, while Chapman has a 3.89 and is double majoring in Management and Psychology. Ventimiglia has a 3.70 and is a Physical Education major.
Jacksonville will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun Championship tournament, which begins Wednesday at D.B. Milne Field. As the first seed and regular season champion, the Dolphins earned a bye into the semifinals and will face the winner of Wednesday’s Furman/Kennesaw State game on Friday at 1 p.m. ESPN3 and Live stats will be available for all matches.
