Each week during the season we will post our Weekly Top Ten Coach’s Poll. We poll our esteemed panel of experts at the end of every week to see who moved up, down, and out of our weekly poll. Our panel represents all geographic regions of Florida and various club programs.  They are all proven fans of the game and great friends of FloridaLacrosseNews.com.  Please feel free to disagree with them and leave your own comments. Meet our panel; Ron Miller – Naples Florida Garry Robinson – Lake Mary Tom West – Ponte Vedra Jimmy Oliver – LaxPower.com Dr. Matt Ort – Olympia High School Gary Hendrzak – Bishop Moore Catholic School Jim Piggot – Gulliver Prep John Matzke – Tampa Jesuit Reed Reynolds – Bucchholz High School Mike Jones – Maclay Riordan Cheatham – Benjamin RJ Dawson – St. Andrew’s Terry Crowley – St. Thomas Aquinas Allen Rice – Leon High School Bill Baker – West Orange High School PV-vs-Providence-052Week 1 1. Saint Andrew’s (3-0)- Keeps the number one spot based on a 3-0 week.  Their three wins included a 3-0 victory over a tough Benjamin team which was ranked #6 in our pre-season poll. A huge game coming up against Lake Highland Prep this Friday. 2. Jupiter (3-0) – Jupiter pulled the biggest upset of the week with an OT win over #2 Lake Highland Prep.  They also scored a win over Lake Mary who had received votes in our pre-season poll.  A huge week for a solid team. 3. Lake Highland Prep (2-1) – LHP didn’t drop far.  Safe to say they are still the strong favorite to head to the State Championship Tournament out of the Central Florida bracket.  Their week did include a big win over a very strong and determined Ponte Vedra team.  A win over Saint Andrew’s this Friday would shoot them right back to the top. 4. St. Thomas Aquinas (3-0) – STA scored an impressive and decisive 12-4 victory over Columbus Catholic.  Their schedule gets a little tougher this week with Pine Crest and Barron Collier on the horizon. Lenick5. Benjamin (1-1) – Benjamin secured the number five spot with a solid win over a good Episcopal Jacksonville team and an impressive loss vs. St. Andrew’s.  They are on a collion course with Boca Raton this week which should tell us a lot about two of our top ten teams. 6. Lake Brantley (2-0) – Lake Brantley notched a solid win over an Oviedo team that many thought would give the Patriots a run for their money this year.  They have a good looking Bishop Moore squad this week. 7. Pine Crest (3-0) – A fast start which included a strong win over Ransom Everglades in week one.  They have #4 St. Thomas Aquinas this week.  Should be a great game. 8. Ponte Vedra (2-1) A scrappy loss to Lake Highland Prep dropped PV a couple of spots.  They face up and coming Bartram Trail this week.  They could use a convincing win to move them back up the poll. 9. Boca Raton (4-0 incl. Monday) Boca won three games including a season opening victory over a tough Creekside team.  That big win moved them up a spot this week. 10. Hagerty (3-0) Last year Hagerty was looking for respect that didn’t come.  Even their victory over Winter Park was met with skeptisicm.  This week they trounced Winter Park 15-4 and cracked the top ten for the first time.  A first time win over District 13 rival Timber Creek this week could go a long way toward keeping them here. Creekside fell off the top ten this week but they did still get quite a few votes.  They are not out of the picture yet.  The next four games give them plenty of opportunities to impress.  They have Bolles, Lake Mary, Bartram Trail, and Ponte Vedra.  A good run here could move them way up in the poll. Other teams who got votes included Lake Mary, Tampa Jesuit, Bartram Trail, Columbus, and Spanish River. Some games to watch this week; Ponte Vedra vs. Bartram Trail.  PV coach Tom West said, “Pv vs. Bartram. Pv is the established top team in north Florida, Bartram wants to take a crack at that spot and just might have the talented offense to challenge.” St. Andrew’s vs. Lake Highland Prep – “Any time you get a match-up of the previous three state final championships in the regular season, it’s got to be the most compelling game of the week. Sure, Jupiter caught LHP in overtime, but this could be a preview of the state title game once again,” Bill Baker, West Orange High School. Tamp Jesuit’s John Matzke like a couple of games.  “Jupiter v Pine Crest and Hagerty v Timber Creek are interesting but the Jupiter game is top dog.”
