Jupiter Prevails Over Benjamin 14 – 11 in District Matchup

Jupiter made the short drive south for a late season district game against Benjamin on March 24, 2015, coming away with the 14-11 victory on Tuesday March 24, 2015.
Benjamin started the scoring with a goal by Patrick Clancy assisted by Cameron Thompson. Jupiter’s Jesse Foertmeyer answered quickly with an unassisted goal, and then Jupiter took the lead on Michael Dean’s goal assisted by Jesse Foertmeyer. Andrew Packer of Benjamin evened the score on a feed from Colin O’Hare and then Benjamin moved ahead on Colin O’Hare’s goal assisted by Patrick Clancy. John Flanary tied the game for Jupiter on his solo goal. With 35 seconds remaining in the quarter, Chris Raso put Benjamin ahead and with 10 seconds left Zack Crotty evened the score for Jupiter. At the end of a very fast back and forth first quarter, the game was tied 4-4.
Both defenses took over for the first three minutes of the second quarter with no score by either team. Zach Crotty of Jupiter opened the scoring with an unassisted goal followed quickly by an unassisted goal from Benjamin’s Patrick Clancy. Jupiter then went on a short run with goals by Jesse Foertmeyer assisted by Michael Dean, Davis Yates unassisted and then Sean Denes assisted by Zach Crotty, to bring the score to 8-5. Benjamin responded with two unassisted goals, the first by Griffin Bowie and the second by Will Nicklaus, to end the half with Jupiter 8, Benjamin 7.
Jupiter opened the third quarter with another run, starting with another Jesse Foertmeyer goal assisted by Zach Crotty, and continuing with Michael Dean assisted by Zach Crotty, Zach Crotty unassisted and then Michael Dean assisted by Peter Cox, with Jupiter now leading 12-7. Benjamin came back with a goal by West Rudolph and then a goal by Michael Buttelman, both unassisted. At the end of three quarters, Jupiter held a 12-9 lead.
Will Nicklaus opened the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal, bringing Benjamin within two goals. Jupiter’s Sean Denes responded, unassisted, followed by another goal by Zach Crotty, assisted by Jake Lolmaugh, bringing the score to 14-10. With a little over a minute to play, Cameron Thompson scored the final goal of the game, for a final score of Jupiter 14 – Benjamin 11.
With the win, Jupiter’s record improved to 13-2, with a road game against Vero Beach coming up on Tuesday March 31. Benjamin’s record moved to 6-6 with their next game at home against Boca Raton, also on Tuesday March 31.
