JU’s Della Rocca, Hiron win A-Sun weekly awards

MACON, Ga. – Jacksonville junior Danielle Della Rocca and sophomore Ashtyn Hiron have been named the Atlantic Sun (A-Sun) Women’s Lacrosse Player and Co-Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Tuesday.
Della Rocca picks up her second A-Sun weekly award this season and fourth in her career after leading the Dolphins to a 16-4 win over Coastal Carolina on Feb. 28. The attacker from Mt. Sinai, N.Y., scored four goals and added four assists to total eight points, which is tied for second most in a single game in school history. Della Rocca also chipped in defensively with five ground balls and recorded an 83.3 shot-on-goal percentage.
Della Rocca leads the league with 10 goals and 14 points.
Hiron earns her first career A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honor after coming up with five ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers. The midfielder from Perth, Western Australia, also added a goal and an assist on the offensive end.
Hiron is tied for the conference lead with teammate and defender Erika Brager in caused turnovers (10).
Hiron shared this week’s conference honor with Old Dominion goalkeeper Maggi Buckley.
