Keith and Kaleb Fernandez Commit To Amherst and Penn

Keith (2016, shown above) and Kaleb (2018) Fernandez, well known brothers on the Florida club scene, have committed to the admissions processes at Amherst College and The University of Pennsylvania respectively. Both attended Gulf Stream School and are attending high school at Georgetown Prep School in Bethesda, Maryland. At Georgetown Prep, both boys played attack and midfield and played extensively on this year’s team which finished ranked in the top ten in the country.
Having grown up in the Delray Beach area where he played for Riptide and various club teams, Keith still considers Florida home and he attributes much of his success at Georgetown Prep to the coaches and teachers in Florida who gave him a solid foundation. “Prep is an amazing place. Everyone is at the top of their game in the classroom and on the field. The coaches demand the best and the competition is tough. I was lucky to have great coaches in Florida who prepared me at an early age”.
Keith also considered Navy, Colgate, Tufts, Fairfield, Holy Cross, Colby, Furman and Marquette. “All of the schools were amazing but at the end of the day it was a pretty easy decision for me. Amherst offers incredible academic opportunities and Coach Thompson has his team in the hunt for a national championship. It just felt right from the beginning. I want to thank my parents who are always there for me and all of my coaches at Prep, especially Coaches Giblin, Horning and Moon for pushing me to succeed. I’d also like to thank Coach Finn (Kevin Finneran, for the few of you who do not know him, who also worked diligently with Kaleb) who I continue training with during school breaks and who was always helpful throughout the recruitment process”.
Kaleb benefitted from getting an early look at what to expect. “Since my brother was already at Prep when I got there, I kind of knew what I was getting myself into. The schoolwork can be brutal and the lacrosse is really competitive. My coaches in Florida and then in Maryland during my year at Mater Dei School really set me up for a great freshman year at Prep”.
Kaleb also considered Princeton, Maryland, Michigan and Loyola but he knew Penn was where he wanted to be from the moment he set foot on campus. “I was really lucky to have the opportunity to find the right spot early in the recruitment process. Penn has an awesome business school and I love the city campus. They won the Ivy League championship in 2014 and the future of the program looks bright. I want to thank my parents who have always supported me 100% and all of my teachers and coaches at Prep and in Florida.”
Unbeknownst to the boys, FLN grabbed this photo to prove they are our own! That grouper is almost as big as Kaleb!
We look forward to following their careers in the years ahead and wish them the very best!
