Knights under the Lights: Lynn Lacrosse Falls in First Home Night Game to No. 14 Florida Southern
BOCA RATON, Fla.- As the sunset painted a picturesque scene on the brand new Bobby Campbell Stadium on the campus of Lynn University, the first-year lacrosse team took the field for the first home night game in school history. Lynn lost the Sunshine State Conference game to No. 14 Florida Southern, 19-1, but a sold-out crowd gave the stadium the feel of a post season match up. Tyler Janvrin’s lone goal marked the first Lynn goal to be scored under the lights at Malfitano Field. The Moccasins (8-3) scored seven goals in the opening quarter of the game while Lynn’s freshman goalkeeper Taylor Ferrino stopped six shots from getting through. FCS’s Grant VanOverbeke had a hat trick in the opening frame while Chris Murphy and Cody Dyer each had two assists. Lynn was able to get off two shots in the opening fifteen minutes, one each by Brian Kiel and Joey Bacarella. The Mocs added eight more goals in the second quarter to lead 15-0 at halftime. Ferrino made 14 saves in goal for before Lynn’s back-up goalkeeper Jason Conner came in for the final 18 minutes of play. Conner allowed just one goal, by Stephen Boyle in the fourth quarter, while making seven saves in between the pipes. Janvrin scored Lynn’s first and only goal of the game with 7:43 left in regulation. Chris D’Angelo led the team with six ground balls while winning 5-of-13 face-offs. Dyer and VanOverbeke each had six points for the Mocs with Dyer’s four goals being a game-high. Dan Krispinsky won 12-of-16 face-offs while grabbing a team-high seven ground balls. Six members of the FSC squad had multi-goal games. Lynn will hit the road for one last time this season on Saturday, March 5, when the Fighting Knights take on Florida Tech at 7:00 p.m. in Melbourne, Fla.
