The Tournament of Champions final fours pitted last year’s Rising Star champion Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ national team against the new upstart Lacrosse Club of Orlando. Although FCA was able to control the ball for much of the first half, great goal tending by Lake Mary’s Dave Moore (Saint Leo) kept the score at 0-0. FCA finally jumped into the lead with a dodge and shot from the top and followed it up with a quick transition goal to take a 2-0 lead.
Lake Mary’s uncommitted senior, Josh Reedy was able to score for LCO and bring them back within one. A few minutes later, FCA was assessed a one minute non-releasable un-sportsman like conduct penalty and Lake Mary’s Cole Lindquist made the most of it and tied the game at 2-2.
The rest of the first half belonged to FCA, however, with the speed differential becoming a factor they were able to pull ahead 5-2 at half time.
Cole Lindquist made a nice shot early in the second half to score his second goal of the game which was followed up by West Orange High School’s Grant Hughes to close the gap to 5-4.
FCA was able to score two more goals down the stretch to end the title hope for Lacrosse Club of Orlando and set up an interesting game between the two Florida teams for third place.
