LBHS vs. Timber Creek Monday March 18, 2014 Timber Creek High School 5-3 faced Lake Brantley High School 8-1 with the eyes of Timber Wolf Stadium looking down. An early spring storm front moved across Central Florida and it rained heavily this evening. The junior varsity boys took most of the heavy rain at their earlier game but the rain stayed hard and steady for three of the four quarters of the varsity match up. Timber Creek’s grass field held strong. It absorbed the rain, drained well and did not turn to a mud pit for a safe well play game. Brantley’s Tim Gehlbach opened up early and scored two goals within the first 30 seconds of the game with shots and scores by Jared Bernhardt and Ryan Crowley also in the first quarter. Timber Creek answered back with Gvan Walker and Steve Tomes scoring goals in the first quarter also. The first quarter ended in the rain 4 / 2 Brantley. Brantley’s offensive machine continued to control the ball and score throughout the game. When Timber Creek did get the ball and get down the field offensively Brantley’s defense did not allow it to last very long with surgical stick checks that put the ball on the ground more time than not. Timber Creek did take advantage in a man up situation with a nice one-two pass from Steve Tomes to Nick Gillan for score in the third quarter. The fourth quarter ended and the final score was Brantley with the win 16 / 4. Lake Brantley has a full schedule during Seminole County’s Spring Break with away games at Apopka on Wednesday night the 19th and the Hagerty rescheduled game on Friday the 21st. Timber Creek’s next game is home Wednesday the 19th against Colonial High School.
