After close losses against perennial powers Oviedo and Winter Springs, first-year Lake Highland coach Natalie Clark was anxious for another opportunity at one of Central Florida’s top teams.
Her squad recorded a breakthrough victory Thursday night, holding off previously unbeaten Winter Park 16-15 in the O-Town Showdown at Bishop Moore.
“This is a very good win,” Clark said. “We’ve been tested against some very good teams so far and to come out on top is big.”
Haley Aniello also recorded five goals, including a score with just more than a minute remaining that gave Lake Highland a 16-14 lead.
Ally Icardi, who had six goals, kept hope alive for Winter Park by scoring on a free position shot with 45 seconds left, but the Wildcats did not get another offensive possession.
