Lake Highland Defeats Hagerty 8-4; Moves On To Final Four

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in .
Apr. 30th – Lake Highland (18-5; District 11 Champions) survived rain, lightning and a determined host Hagerty Huskies team tonight to move into the state final four for the fifth straight year and five of the seven years of the programs existence.  The Highlanders controlled the pace of play for most of the game, winning 11 of 16 face-offs and causing numerous turnovers in transition.  Both goalies were outstanding with LHP Junior Adam Sawicki recording 11 saves.  After a weather induced tentative start, both teams settled in with LHP failing to capitalize on opportunities and Hagerty playing solid defense.  Lake Highland slowly started to pull away, taking a 6-2 lead early in the third quarter.  Hagerty would not quit and scored the next two goals over an eight minute span to pull within two at 6-4 with 10:55 left in the game.  After Seniors Clay Phillips (3 goals on the night) and Billy Roll (4 assists for the game) connected to make the score 7-4, the Highlanders would survive a two man down situation immediately followed by another Roll to Phillips scoring play which sealed the victory for the visitors.  Kevin Collin led the Huskies with two goals.  LHP next plays Ponte Vedra at noon on Friday in a re-match of last years memorable state semi-final game.
