With 18 seniors gone off a team that went unbeaten against area competition, many observers questioned whether Lake Highland could come close to matching last year’s dominance.
The defending state champion Highlanders made a statement Tuesday night.
Junior attackers Billy Roll and Clay Phillips combined for nine goals and seven assists to lead Lake Highland, the top-ranked team in the Sentinel Super Six, to an 18-8 victory against Boone in a battle of unbeaten teams.
“We thought it was a statement game and that we really had to come out and play our best to beat them,” Highlanders coach Chris Spaulding said.
Lake Highland (5-0) scored three goals in a span of 77 seconds during the first quarter to build a 5-1 lead and maintained control throughout the game.
