Lake Highland tops Bishop Moore for District 9 championship

(April 21st) – Lake Highland (16-1;5-0) defeated Bishop Moore this evening 12-2 to earn their third straight District title and now prepare to move on to the state tournament. The Highlanders were led by senior captain Will Rotatori (4G, 1A) and junior attackman Austin Tamayo (2G, 2A). The Highlanders defense, led by senior goalie Warren Berenis, held the host Hornets in check all evening. Lake Highland enjoyed a huge shooting advantage and outstanding goal tending by Bishop Moore goalie Adam Sawicki prevented the margin of victory from being larger. Sawicki had an assist by on a long “Gilman” clear at the start of the second half. Austin Tamayo opened the scoring at the 7:43 mark of the first period with a slick inside move and finish on a Highlander man-down situation. Rotatori and a host of Highlanders added tallies to build a 7-1 halftime lead. After the break, the Highlanders continued to control the flow play forcing numerous failed Bishop Moore clearing attempts. Lake Highland next plays Winter Park at Showalter Field on Tuesday, April 26th at 7:00p. Bishop Moore finished the season with an 11-8 record on a very stout schedule.
