Mar. 28th – Lake Highland (11-1; 4-0 District 11) raced to a 6-1 lead and then used a combination of timely defense, great goaltending and patient offense to hold off a rally by the visiting Shipley School Gators from Bryn Mawr, PA and preserve a signature win against an established northern hotbed program.  The first eight plus minutes of the game were played mostly in the Highlander offensive end with the home team continually testing the Shipley unique zone defense that effectively kept the LHP offensive weapons to the perimeter.  Clay Phillips opened the scoring for the Highlanders at the 3:36 mark of the first period with the first of his team leading four goals on the evening.  After Shipley tied the score one minute later, Lake Highland went on a 5-0 run highlighted by Billy Roll’s game high four assists.  LHP would continue their domination at both ends of the field and led 7-2 at halftime.  Any thought of cruising to an easy victory was quickly erased in the third period as Shipley used a 5-0 run of their own to tie the score at 7-7 midway through the third quarter.  Lake Highland steadied themselves for the stretch run and received stand-out performances by goalie Alex Acuna and the set defense led by Riley Shepardson, Casey Irish and Jackson Bowen.  Along with Davis Anderson and Chris Medary controlling face-offs, the offense patiently picked its opportunities to attack the Shipley defense.  Devon Lewis scored at the 2:17 mark of the third quarter to give the Highlanders an 8-7 lead and Phillips scored what turned out to be the game winner at the 4:20 mark of the final quarter on a helper from Lewis.  Shipley would score once more during an exciting final four minutes that saw the Highlanders run out the clock and turn back any Shipley threats.  The Highlanders next prepare for a quick turnaround as they visit the Benjamin School Friday evening.
