Game 2 of the District 15 playoffs featured long time rivals #2 Seed Tampa Jesuit (9-6) facing #3 Seed Plant High School (9-6). Plant defeated Jesuit last year in the district finals to capture their first District 15 Title and were hoping for a repeat of last year.  Tampa Jesuit won the last meeting between the two by a score of 18-8 earlier in the year, but everyone expected this meeting to be tightly  contested. At the  7 minute mark, Plant’s Senior Midfielder Eric Port was the first to put points on the board with a nice dodge and finish at the top of the box, but less then a minute later Jesuit Senior Attackman Stephano Mastro (Mount St Mary) (2g) answered  to tie the score assisted by Sophmore Attackman Brock Mondor (2 assists) on a nice feed from X.  The rest of the first quarter was all Jesuit as Freshmen Attackman Jake Lemon (1g)  and Senior Midfielder Jackson Parisey (4g) added a goal each to end the quarter with a 3-1 Jesuit lead. The second quarter was more of the same as Jesuit added goals by Senior Midfielders Connor Lynch (1g) and Parisey to end the half with 5-1 Jesuit lead and looked to be a repeat of their earlier meeting in March.  Jesuit’s defense led by Junior Goalkeeper Sabastian Rivers kept Plant from capitalizing on any opportunities keeping them scoreless in the quarter and Senior Face off/ Midfielder Greg Aiello seemed to be in control at the faceoff X. The third quarter Plants offense came alive from an  unexpected  source of offense,  Sophmore Defenseman Egan Baber (2g). Who  made a defensive clear down field and delivered a low shot past Rivers to cut the lead 5-2.  Plant scored 2 additional goals by Sophmore  Midfielder William Cotty (2g) and Junior Attackmen Henry Brannan (2g) to cut the lead to 5-4 Jesuit. Plant’s defense started to come alive as well led by Junior Defensemen Bennet Taylor (Army). Although Jesuit outshot the Panthers by almost double Freshmen Goalkeeper John Schifino kept Plant close by making numerous saves and shutting the Tigers out in the third quarter. The fourth quarter started with Tigers Senior Midfielder Jackson Parisey scoring his 3rd goal of the game  less then a minute into the quarter on a nice feed from Senior Midfielder Hunter Revord (2a) to give the Tigers a little more cushion on their lead but was answered a few minutes later by Plant Midfielder William Cotty (2g) for his second goal of the game to keep it with in one. Plant Sophmore Defensemen Egan Baber scored his second goal of the game and tied the game at 6 apiece less then a minute later. Momentum seemed to be shifting to Plant at the halfway point in the fourth quarter. With 3 minutes remaining Jesuit’s Stephano Mastro put the Tigers ahead with his second goal of the game. Jesuit’s Aiello won the ensuing face off and Jesuit seemed content to hold the ball  but turned the ball over with less then a minute remaining and Plant hit a wide open Henry Brannan (2g) to score his second goal of the game and tied the game up again. The crowd was loud in the background realizing the next possession was huge for both teams. Jesuit Senior Midfielder Greg Aiello and Plant Junior Midfielder Enrique Marnotes battled it out all night at the face off X with Aiello winning the majority.  Aiello was able to win the face off and Jesuit quickly called a time out to play for last shot. Play resumed and Jesuit worked the ball around probing the perimeter of Plants defense for an opening as the time was ticking down. With 6 seconds remaining Jesuit Senior Hunter Revord fed a streaking fellow Senior Jackson Parisey who delivered a low shot to the left corner of the goal to score his fourth of night and game winning goal. There was still 2 seconds left and Plant’s Marnotes won the next face off but was fouled.  Plant had one more chance to score with man up but was unable to get a shot on goal to end the game.  Tampa Jesuit (10-6) advances to play Steinbrenner (10-4) for the District 15 Title on Thursday night 7pm at Jesuit High School. Scoring Recap Tampa Jesuit 8 Goals: Parisey 4, Mastro, S 2,  Lynch 1, Lemon 1 Assists: Revord 2, Mondor 2 Plant 7 Goals: Brannan 2, Cotty 2, Baber 2, Port 1 Assists: Barlow 1
