What: Game #4 Who: Ohio Machine (1-2) at Florida Launch (0-3) When: Saturday, May 9 at 7 PM Where: FAU Stadium How: TV: www.espn3.com (Live)   Game #4 Preview The Florida Launch return to the friendly confines of FAU Stadium where they will take on the Ohio Machine this Saturday, May 9 at 7:00 PM. The Machine is fresh off its first win of the season while the Launch is still looking for its first win. Kieran McArdle continues to be the glue that keeps the team together, leading the squad in goals with eight and assists with five.   Launch vs. Machine Series Last season the Launch and Machine split the series with both teams winning at home. In the inaugural matchup between the teams, the Launch won a tight 10-9 contest with Casey Powell scoring the game winner with less than three minutes remaining in regulation. In the final game of the 2014 season, the Machine bested the Launch to finish the season over .500 and clinch the final spot in the MLL playoffs. Both Kieran McArdle and Powell had six points in the two bouts with the Machine. Chris Mattes had success versus the opponent at the face-off position last season, with 29 victories at the center line. In the goal, Brett Queener saved 58 percent of the shots that the Machine took in their games.   Game #3 Recap The Launch started May with a road contest against the Rattlers, falling 10-9 in overtime. Trailing for most of the game, the Launch rallied and ended regulation with a 3-0 run with Sam Snow, Steve Brooks and Kevin Cunningham all contributing goals to force overtime. In the extra time the Rattlers scored the golden goal early to get the victory.   Coach’s Corner

Stan-Ross-2012

Three Straight Losses: “We held a team to only three goals in the second half and put together a second half that forced the game into overtime. We are doing a good job at the face-off x and continuously improving on the defensive end. We are making a couple of simple mistakes that teams are taking advantage of but overall we are improving defensively. We just need to pick up our feet at the offensive end.” Moves at the Offensive End: “We need something at the offensive end as we’ve been a bit stagnant at the o line – we aren’t generating enough at that end. We need to continue to move forward and Miles will be able to help us there. You put him with Casey and Kieran, as well as the possibility of our collegiate stars, I think we’ll be able to generate more at the offensive end but we need to get there quicker and get on the same page this weekend.” Machine Gearing Up: “We need to be ready and be prepared with a game plan that can slow down their first midfield who are a force to be reckon with.” Brooks Stepping In: “He has taken more of a leadership role at the offensive line. What he does best is catching on the back side and either shooting or going for a quick dodge. But out of necessity we’ve had him elsewhere. But the great thing about Brooks is he will do what we ask him to do and do at 100%.”   Launch Together Saving the Best for Last: So far this season, the Launch plays its best lacrosse in the final 15 minutes of play. In the last quarter, the Launch has outscored its opponents 9-4. It is the only quarter where the Launch outscores its foes. And I Would Walk 500 Miles: On Monday the Florida Launch and Rochester Rattlers did a trade, bringing Miles Thompson to Boca Raton. While not playing in the MLL yet this season since his National Lacrosse League team, the Minnesota Swarm, just finished its 2015 season last weekend, Thompson adds another youthful attackmen to the Launch’s arsenal. Last season Thompson posted 12 goals and seven assists at the professional level while recording 82 goals and 37 assists in his senior campaign with Albany.

Lucky 13: The Launch vs. Machine matchup will pit two of the league’s best offensive players against each other. Kieran McArdle and Peter Baum are tied for fourth in the MLL with 13 points.   Noteworthy Players #6 Kieran McArdle (A) – Kieran McArdle’s hot start to the 2015 season hit a speedbump last week with two goals and an assist in the overtime loss to the Rattlers. McArdle still leads the team in goals with eight and assists with five for 13 points. Amongst the MLL elites, McArdle ranks fourth (tied) in goals and points while tied for seventh in assists.

#44 Steven Brooks (A) – With reigning MLL MVP Casey Powell having a slow start to the season, Steven Brooks has been doing his best to fill the void in the offense. With back-to-back four point games, Brooks is just on the outside of the top-10 for points in the league as he currently is tied for 11th.

Florida Launch v Rochester Rattlers

#65 Chris Mattes (FO) – With Mike Poppleton getting sent to Rochester in the Miles Thompson trade, Chris Mattes is once again the lone specialist for the Launch. Last season, Mattes won 200 face-offs while participating in a league-high 403 face-offs. With two options for the face-offs, the Launch currently is in the top half of the league in face-off percentage at .566 with Mattes winning 57 percent of his.

Chris Mattes 2015 Faceoff Series

#23 Brett Queener (G) – In last week’s loss Brett Queener saved 60 percent of the shots the Rattlers took to help the Launch force overtime. Queener has been one of the best goalies in the league this season, leading all qualified goalies in save percentage with a 65 percent chance and is third in goals allowed a game with an 11.06 average.

The Launch will then be on the road for three games against Ohio, Boston and New York before returning to Boca on Saturday, June 20 to take on the Boston Cannons at 7 PM.
