One of our favorite events of the fall is the Lax Vs. Cancer event held at University of Tampa. It’s set to take place this weekend with FIT, Tampa, and St. Leo from the Sunshine State Conference and the MCLA’s FSU, USF, and Florida.
The Lax vs. Cancer charity is now three years old and Tampa is once again joining hundreds of teams who have gotten involved with Vs. Cancer. While the founder, Chase Jones loves to tell people that he is now cancer free it’s a reminder to him that there are many many kids out there who are not. The event at University of Tampa last year raised over $10,000 to help kids with cancer “right here in Tampa.”
There are two ways you can help out. First, if you can, go to the games on Sunday. The games begin at 8:00 AM as the West Florida High School team takes on the Whipple Lacrosse All Stars, then University of Tampa and St. Leo face off. The last game of the day features a rematch of the 2015 SSC Championship game between Tampa and FIT. You can enjoy some great lacrosse, get a good look at how some of the state’s teams are going to look this spring, and make a donation to help kids in Tampa fight cancer. The other is to go here – https://team.vs-cancer.org/fundraise/team?ftid=57388 and make a donation on line.
We had a fantastic time at this event last year and got some great photos. You can check out our coverage of last year’s event here and check out pics here.
The event is part of a full weekend at UT along with the UT Prospect Camp, the high school game, and the MCLA and SSC college games.
For the full schedule of the Tampa prospect camp as well as the Lax vs Cancer, both taking place this weekend, check out Whipple Lacrosse home page.
