February 3, 2015 – Atlanta, GA – LB3 Events is pleased to announce it will be hosting the Cobb County Classic Series, consisting of three collegiate lacrosse games, at Fifth Third Bank Stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State University this spring. The Cobb County Classic Series will feature Northwestern vs. Virginia Women’s Lacrosse and Duke vs. Denver Men’s Lacrosse on February 14th. And on March 7, 2015 the Cobb County Classic Series will feature the match up of Syracuse vs. St. Johns Men’s Lacrosse.
On opening weekend of the NCAA Lacrosse Season, the Cobb County Classic will feature to prime matchups between Northwestern and Virginia on the Women’s Side and Duke vs. Denver on the Men’s side. Game times for the two games are as followed, the Women’s Game will start at 3:30PM and the Men’s Game will start at 1:00PM. Virginia Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach Julie Myers is excited for her teams trip down to Atlanta for their match up with Northwestern a second year. “We love getting our early season started down in Atlanta. The facilities, support, fan base and environment at Kennesaw State makes our annual match up against Northwestern electric. I am sure it will become a tradition that both teams look forward to for years to come,” said Coach Myers.
The second weekend of the Cobb County Classic Series will take place on March 7 and will feature the match up of the Syracuse and St. Johns Men’s Lacrosse teams. Both of those teams are returning for a second year to participate in the event. The March 7th game will start at 1:00PM. St. Johns Coach Jason Miller, spoke about the Red Storm’s return to Atlanta. He said, “We are really excited to be coming back to Atlanta to mix it up with the Orange. Our players and families came away so impressed with this event. The venue at Kennesaw is great, the crowd was great, the overall level of excitement…it left no doubt in my mind that lacrosse is booming in Atlanta. We are grateful for the chance to be part of it again.”
“Syracuse University Men’s Lacrosse team is excited to be coming back to Atlanta to play St. Johns. We had a great experience last year and we are excited to return to a great venue in Fifth Third Bank Stadium,” said Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse Coach John Desko, when asked about his teams return to Atlanta.
The Cobb County Classic Series aims to promote the great game of lacrosse in the southeast region, by hosting premier collegiate teams for games in the Atlanta area. Coach Desko spoke in regards to the growing of the game, saying “Playing in non-traditional markets like Atlanta helps to grow the game and bring exposure to Syracuse Lacrosse. Liam Banks ’03 has done an excellent job of promoting lacrosse in the area bringing in both MLL and NCAA games. We are excited to support his mission of growing the gam, especially when it give us a chance to play in front of a large crowd in Atlanta.”
Fifth Third Bank Stadium, on the campus of Kennesaw State University, is a great venue for the Cobb County Classic Series having hosted previous lacrosse events hosted by LB3 and more recently played host to the Major League Lacrosse Championship Game. The stadium seats 10,000 people and is a very intimate and family friendly place to watch a sporting event. Marty Elliott, General Manager of Fifth Third Bank Stadium, is excited for the stadium on the campus of Kennesaw State University to host this great matchup. Eliot stated, “Kennesaw State University is thrilled to play host to these powerhouse lacrosse teams and looks forward to putting them in-front of thousands of fans who love lacrosse at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.”
On the weekend of March 7th, there will once again be the Cobb County Classic Jamboree event for boys teams in the U11, U13 and U15 age groups. Each team will get three games, 2 games on Saturday and 1 game on Sunday. Also on Sunday the players on the teams will get a clinic with the Syracuse Men’s Lacrosse team. All players on the teams participating in the Cobb County Classic Jamboree will get a ticket to the Syracuse vs. St. Johns game on March 7.
