As the Lynn University Fighting Knights prepare for their second season Coach Kingsbury’s focus is squarely on improvement.
Last season Lynn put two freshmen on the SSC All Freshmen team. Those two freshmen, Chris D’Angelo and Brian Kiel shouldered a lot of weight for the team.
This season Lynn has better numbers and gets some guys back from injuries. Brian Kiel has put on 15-20 pounds and is nothing short of a beast on the field. Plus he has a lot more talent around him which will create more opportunities while removing some pressure.
Greater opportunity for success in store for Face -Off Specialist, Chris D’Angelo. Last season Chris was not a “specialist” since he was asked to wear so many hats. This year he will be able to focus on more possessions for his team at the “X.”
Coach Kingsbury believes that the season really depends on one major factor, “We need to see how this team forms in terms of chemistry.” To that end they have identified the players who the Fighting Knights will look to for leadership.
Anthony Rainone, a junior transfer from Adelphi comes in with big game experience. “He has a very competitive nature and has big game experience.” Adelphi made the second round of the NCAA tournament in both of Rainone’s seasons with the Panthers.
Nicholas Haggerty is a mature sophomore. Before college Haggerty spent time pursuing his goals in the tough world of junior hockey. He, like Rainone, can draw on elite level competitive experience to lead the Fighting Knights.
Austin Jerhoff is a returning Captain who was a team leader in 2014 despite being out with an injury. The Canadian returns to the field this year healthy and ready for a break-out season.
The fourth captain is a red-shirt freshman named Mark Snellman. Snellman hails from Connecticut’s nationally recognized program at The Salisbury School. Despite his youth, he has the demeanor to lead this group and the confidence of his coach. Kingsbury describes him as “21 going on 40” and feels he is the right guy for the job.
Lynn is hosting a prospect camp on January 18th. Lynn’s only February date is a game against Palm Beach Atlantic on the 21st. They will face a tough LIU Post team at the Wounded Warrior Project at Flagler Palm Coast High School on March 1st. They open at home on March 6th and will play their first game of the season with the student body on campus on March 9th.
