thanks to Olivia Coiro, Assistant Director, Athletic Communications at Lynn for this   Lynn Lacrosse 2015 Season Preview BOCA RATON, Fla.- With the first year at the helm of the lacrosse program under his belt, head coach Brian Kingsbury is expecting a whole different culture for 2015. The Fighting Knights won just one game in the inaugural season but the addition of 17 new faces to the crowd nearly doubles the roster from last year. The Blue & White return last year’s leading goal scorer and Sunshine State Conference All-Freshman Team selection Brian Kiel who notched 15 goals and had five assists at attack in 2014. He recorded the first multi-goal game in program history and a total of five throughout the season. Also returning is Lynn’s dominant midfielder Tyler Janvrin who led the team in points last season with 11 goals and a team-high 11 assists. New faces to Lynn’s offense include sophomore Johnny Gavin and transfer Anthony Rainone. After watching the first season from the sidelines, Mark Snellman and Austin Jerhoff are ready to make an immediate impact on the Blue & White’s offense as well. It’s been an offseason battle at the face-off position for the Fighting Knights as returners Chris D’Angelo and Vincent Genovesi have been going head-to-head to earn the starting spot. Last season, D’Angelo won 94 face-offs for 55 percent of his attempts. He scored six goals and had three assists as a freshman and was named to the SSC All-Freshman Team alongside Kiel. Genovesi has shown much improvement in the off-season at the FO spot. In 2014 he won 53.8 percent of face-offs taken and won 10 for a personal best in the Fighting Knight’s lone win of the season. On defense Lynn returns Shaun McDonald, Chase Ostermann, Nicholas Haggarty and Jacob Lipani while adding five newcomers to the mix. McDonald and Ostermann combined for 34 groundballs last season and Lipani added 10 as the trio started every game for the Blue & White. Named captain this year, Haggarty is looked upon to be a strong presence both on and off the field for the Fighting Knights. Ian Magnan II and Caleb Cerf are two defenders to keep an eye out for and as they bring a high lacrosse IQ to the backfield. Lynn’s last line of defense is a toss-up as both returning goalkeeper Taylor Ferrino and freshman Nick Nehring have been dominant in preseason. Ferrino made 191 saves in his rookie season between the pipes and had his first career win against Lees-McRae where he allowed just three goals and stopped 14 shots. Nehring was named an Under Armour All-American during his time at Corning East High School in New York. The season kicks off on Saturday, February 21, on the road at Palm Beach Atlantic. Lynn will play No. 3 LIU Post in a neutral site game on March 1 before opening the home season on Friday, March 6, against Emmanuel under the lights at Bobby Campbell Stadium. The Fighting Knights face off against three nationally-ranked teams this season and begin conference play at No. 10 Florida Southern on March 21.
