thanks to Alexander Slocum of Lynn for this press release!   BOCA RATON, Fla. – Members of the Lynn University men’s lacrosse team volunteered their time every Thursday this past October, helping introduce the game of lacrosse to the local community by providing instructional clinics at the YMCA of Boca Raton. “This was a great way for our guys to get out in our community and show our true colors by teaching the game of lacrosse to the interested and inspiring local youth,” head coach Brian Kingsbury said. “I am proud of these guys for finding the time to volunteer and help grow our sport.” The clinics contained 30 boys and girls ranging from 4-9 years old. The South Florida Youth Lacrosse League donated equipment to get started, including lacrosse sticks, balls and goals geared towards the 5-8 range. Kingsbury was then contacted in hopes of having the team help set up a clinic. “The Lynn lacrosse team was great,” Becky Maranges said, the Sports Director at the Peter Blum Family YMCA. “They were always early to arrive and made sure everything was cleaned up and put away. They were all very engaging with the children and showed a lot of heart. It was clear that they enjoyed working with the kids and that the kids enjoyed working with them!” Participating members from the Blue & White included Ian Magnan, Nick Nehring, Conrad Rhine, Austin Shircliff, Caleb Cerf, Nick Howard, Shane Brummond, Austin Jerhoff, Steve Polsinelli, and Kingsbury with guest appearances from Peter Masters, Greg Morsette and Lynn assistant coaches Mike Wilus & Lloyd Hamilton. The YMCA has already received plenty of positive feedback regarding the Fighting Knights’ involvement and the hope is to see the program grow with additional clinics. “My son Taylor was so excited he was able to play lacrosse (without even seeing it played before) at the YMCA,” Tiffany Child stated, a participant’s mother. “The Lynn University team was so amazing with the kids! They were really wonderful, enthusiastic teachers and that made him more excited to play. He would wake up every morning asking if it was a Lacrosse day and he can’t wait to play it again.” Log on to LynnFightingKnights.com<http://LynnFightingKnights.com> to check out pictures and videos from the clinics.
